First car. It's an rx8!
Hi guys. Just bought my first car yesterday. Ended up choosing a blue 05 rx8 sport with around 90000 miles on it. Couldn't be more happier with the decision. Some paint chips and scratches but nothing to bad.

Oh, you poor, pathetic soul. I wouldn't wish this as a first car on my worst enemy...
Not just because they are high maintenance but because now you'll be ruined for so many more reasonable cars for the rest of your life.

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Congratulations on the best purchase of your life
Completely agree.
My first car was an '04 Rx-8, sold it two years later. Test drove like 10 different cars, ended up buying another Rx-8. 7 years later, looking to sell it, test drove so many cars, still want to keep it but not enough room

I only have 34k miles on a pristine 07 RX8, and barely drive it, but I fixed every thing that might give trouble: BHR ign, BHR fuel pump, Bilstein B12 kit, light 19# Enkei GF-1 wheels, Michelin PSS, etc.
I learned from my 73 RX3 how not to ruin the engine, like putting 1/2 oz per gallon 2 cycle in gas, and don't drive at max rpm's for a long time. I used to drive RX3 at 110 mph+ and around 6k rpm for a hour or more at a time. High rpm's above 4 or 5k rpm make for some more friction than necessary.
