The GT and R3 to me are equal...people say the R3 are the higher trim but if you look closely the GT has more features where as the R3 has more Aero kit.
Well the R3 is lighter, has a better suspension and some other details. It is more driver focused, that is the point of it. But I would rather have a fully loaded GT.

"More features" depends on how you define features.
Like said, it's hard to say which one is superior. GT has more comfort oriented features like memory power seats, sunroof(which is actually optional for GT - someone sold an S2 GT without sunroof here before) and heated leather seats, but then R3 have 19" forged wheels, Recaro seats, utherane injected front cross members, and Bilstein shocks, which are performance oriented.
Personally, I got my GT because it kinda matched my Accord Coupe EX-L(which was fully loaded) the best in terms of comfort features, although if you want to AutoX or track, it may be better to get one without sunroof, as it takes away some headroom.
Moon Roof
Power Seat
Heated Seat
Auto climate control
Auto Headlight
Auto Sensing Wipers
The R3 has
19" Wheels
Aero kit
Foam filled Cross member
And all R3 features can easily be added to any RX8...where as for the GT features is not that easy to add to the others.
Don't forget the Recaro seats for R3s and the optional navigation unit for the GT. I feel like I am the only one here with an S2 that actually has that option installed. The navigation updates are nearly non-existent, though. The latest one I can get my hands on is from 2013.
R3 19" wheels are pretty expensive. If you buy them new, they are like $500 each. Sometimes you may see someone selling their used ones here, though.
I think R3 also has auto climate control, auto headlights(with HID low beams) and auto-sensing wipers as well. There was someone who got a Canadian R3 and the climate control section is exactly like my GT with "Push for Auto" on the temperature **** and the wiper stalk also has "Auto" on it. So either the brochure is wrong, or the configuration is different in the States.

The R3 dont have auto headlight, the unit that does it comes along with the rain sensor which the R3 also didnt have, there is no auto climate either...I was going to get an R3 at first cause everyone said it was the top end model, but when I drove one I found it was missing a lot of GT features so the R3 can have the Recaro seats, 19" wheels and Aero kit and priced only $500 more than the GT...so it was a trade off...thats why i said the R3 to me isnt really the highest trim, Its just for adifferent audience.
As far as the US is concerned, you are right about the lack of the auto rain sensor, auto on/off headlights and auto climate controls for R3. The auto leveling HIDs are standard on both R3 and GT.
Canadian R3 seems to get all the auto features. We also have white R3, and my particular GT combination(Red Mica exterior + red leather interior) doesn't exist in the US. The only exterior color that offers the red leather interior in the US is the Black Mica.
Some cars do have different Canadian and US versions. My old Accord Coupe has a much bigger windshield fluid tank than the US equivalent, and a low-level warning light that the US models don't have. Heated mirrors are also standard for all Accord trims in Canada, while in the US, only EX and higher trims have them. Even now, we have DX Civics without A/C in Canada, while Civics start from LX in the US now.
