Mazda Looking At Mazda2 For Us! ( and diesels!)

While Motortrend is speculating "North American probably won't get the Mazda2 because Ford plans to introduce its own version, the Verve/Fiesta coming to Europe and China this year, and the U.S. in 2010"
the head of Mazda NA is talking about the 2 as well as the possiblity of Diesels
bring it bring the 2 and bring a 70mpg diesel version
interesting note about that Fiesta- motortrend speculates the Fiesta could end up a couple hundred pounds heavier than the 2 because ford will skimp on the high strength/lightweight steel

“We’re not ready to make the announcement but obviously we sell diesels in Europe,” O’Sullivan said during a lunch with reporters in Detroit. “The Mazda 2 is extremely successful in Europe and Asia. We’re continuing to watch that space in North America.”
O’Sullivan added the passenger car market in the U.S., as opposed to the truck market, is showing signs of evolving.
“We see the car market here in the United States becoming more like the European market. By that I mean “C” cars are continuing to grow and “B” cars are becoming more prominent than ever before,” O’Sullivan added.

Bring it on, I think it would sell like crazy here. Am I a fan of the styling; not really BUT I understand the market for such cars.
I'll get my friend to trade in her Yaris for this thing!

I'd convince my gf to trade in her 05' Civic for this.
And Ford wont bring this over as the Fiesta it would be to much of a "Bold Move" for them.

Ford should just make F150's and call it a day. I make exception for the F150 because I know all my redneck relatives up here in the midwest love them a F150.
A diesel powered 2 would make a nice replacement for my ZX2 Escort. Y'know, when it rusts to pieces.

Maybe they can redesign it for our market, too. That thing's just too small - it needs to be closer to the size of an Excursion, and look at that wimpy cup holder. That's certainly not going to hold MY large fries and absurd-o sized cola. No sir. And those seats! Ugh! How do they ever expect us Americans to fit into such tiny seats?? I say move the back seat to the front, and put another one next to it so I can have a passenger! Give it a 6 foot lift kit too, the roads today are too treacherous to traverse without a vehicle that can drive over others and subsequently flip over for easy egress.

damn 3 drivers would say that...
Mazda has other cars for that though. I don't think the Honda Fit has obesity support, but I'm pretty sure there was a waiting list to buy one!

I can't tell if you're serious or not, but what I wrote was 100% satire, mostly making fun of how they turned the US-bound 6 into hideous beast.
