I just narrowly avoided my first $50 tank today by topping off at 12.3 gallons. As the prices head towards $5 a gallon, I still look towards this silver lining:
Mazda simply must bring us the Mazdaspeed 2. I'll keep the 8 - I'll just drive it less.

I read the japanese mag yesterday and it is stating that the rx8 will more likely to get discontinued when the new rx7 is coming out with the newer rotarty system, the x16(that's what's called?)
But then this is just a another Japanese speculations on a "gossip" magazine

If you take it easy on it, it's actually pretty good considering the power it produces. It will guzzle of course if you constantly use boost.
I did get 30mpg in my Speed 6 before a few times most recently cruise control at 70mph on a trip to Florida (driving through Virginia I was careful not to speed), but overall I get about 26-27 highway, and 19-20 in the city. I'd imagine the Speed 3 will get a little better because it's lighter and not AWD.
