rented a pontiac g8 gt WOW!

man, what a ride for 30k! fast as hell and good looking. pontiac and gm have finally done something right. my friend works at a car rental place and they just got 9 of them in this past week. so we rented one for the weekend. 50 bucks for 3 days aint bad and well worth the fun we had. with 361 hp on tap the potenzas had no chance. this car also has the cylinder deactivation so gas mileage was decent. well anyone looking for a very fast family sedan NEEDS to drive one. it made my 07 tl type s feel like a complete dog.

or drop a turbo in your rx8 and make more power while retaining a lightweight vehicle.

Yeah, but it's good for the GTO set. If I was looking for a sedan, I'd take one for a test drive.

This thread is useless without pics and a complimentary one day G3 rental coupon for me from your friend who works at the rental agency.

How was the handling? I know they targeted a 50/50 weight distribution but I was wondering how well that would work out in a car this heavy.

i found the body leaned a bit much for my taste but it is a 4100 lb car and i drive an 8. on the whole it handeled very good. it came with potenza re050 tires and they bite hard. the 6spd auto is one of the best i have used from the general. its supposed to get 16/24 gas milage but it can run on regular and has a 19 gallon tank. i know its not an rx8 and its silly to compare. the g8 would make a hell of a companion for a family that has kids and an rx8.

Maybe I'll try and drive one just for kicks to see how it compares to my dad's SRT-8. I should drive a Vibe anyhow since I'm starting to look at cars for the wife. I can't wait for that testdrive

I saw one on the road the other day and it took me forever to figure out WTF it was. I was behind it and at first I thought BMW, then Aston Martin or Alfa Romeo. It took a while. That back end looks very European to me. Overall I think it's a great looking car and a great overall value. We'll have to see how well they hold up over time.

I havent seen any in our area yet. Guess I might have to make a trip down to the Pontiac dealership and take one out for a Test Drive. Been eying this since hearing about it as a extra car once the 8 is paid off. Keep the 8 as a weekender and this as the daily driver, grocery getter.

...except your grocery getter would do 0-60 .7 seconds faster than your weekender!

I was just looking at these. Only downside is no MT gearbox. Apparently the G8 GXP is due to have a 6spd MT, about 50 more HP and some other cool **** all for under 40k.

Yeah, not a bad car...remember and Australian designed and made one. (the donk (engine) is imported from the US though).

The Holden (G8) factory is in my state about an hours drive from my house.

You guys get it dirt cheap..$26K US or $28K Australian,
WE PAY $55 K AUD!!...Go figure.

^ G8 is RWD based on the same platform (Zeta) the new Camaro will sport (and the same as the Holden variants).

I think this car is really good and shouldn't be overlooked for a sports sedan or any V8 car period. I was trying to convince my parents to get one.

It's just too bad that the G8 currently only comes with failmatic. At least it's not fail wheel drive I guess...
