Gas Price Gouging!

Gas Price Gouging!
OK.....This is BS...I live in N AL...and Gas has gone up almost a dollar a gallon for regular in some areas. Lucky the 8 is full, and the Jeep I only had to top off, but this is ridiculous.
AL has declared a state of emergency so those that do this can be prosecuted, but it may spread, so ya'll might want ot watch for this. This story is out of Houston.

Be glad it was only a dollar rise...there are some stations in the area here, namely Fayetteville, that were selling 89 for 5.49! These store owners need to be put in their place.

Matt, if you catch the local news they were running a 1800- number to report this ****. It is illegal, and this state of emergency envokes the price gouging laws. I think they can only raise prices once a day. I topped off my tank earlier today, and have my receipt. I ended up going back out and topped it off again, same day, for 10 cents higher per gallon. Things like this can help the AG to prosecute.
I think WAFF.com has it too, which is a local news station up here.

I agree, and it's been proven here by a station owner showing paperwork of her gas purchase, but for the most part its gouging. We've "heard" through the grapevine that only places like Walmart that sell fuel will be getting any fuel and that was being held off until Midnight, but others that run out will run out. There has been at least one large conglomerate station reported to be out of fuel, and that was early this afternoon.
Interestingly enough, premium has not skyrocketed here. I saw one sign where regular was higher than even Diesel.

yea i agree and i know they cant sell it for less than what they bought it for.. but when the price goes up two or three times a day and its at least a dollar a gallon higher.... you gotta wonder if something is up..
im doubting the price of gas being high but it shouldnt be anywhere near this high...
i mean yesterday morning a gas station was reported in Birmingham to have regular for $5.29... this was yesterday morning and i know yesterday they werent paying that much for a shipment of gas... gouging i say

I had to take a 300 mile trip yesterday. I filled up on Friday so I would not have to deal with the gas stations on Saturday. It was a mad house trying to get into the Quick-Trip. On Saturday, while on the trip, I did stop to top it off several times. When we got back home, the news was good that the oil platforms were safe. The prices had already started to decline.
I understand the idea of supply and demand but it seams that demand should fuel that issue. I think what fueled it this time was the price raised and freaked everyone out which made a rush on the stations. If the price had remained the same, I don't think there would have be a panic.
I wish I could have just stayed at home and skipped the whole issue and I never would have been effected by the hype. What really spooked everyone at my office on Friday was someone saying they heard on the radio the price was up above $5.00 somewhere in South Carolina. I spoke to a guy later in the day that was headed to SC and he said it was in the $3.90's . . .

was 5.60 here saturday... is now at 4.75 down the street.. cheapest i can find is 3.99 at ingles but they are out of gas every other day still. The funny thing about price gouging... The ingles and the store charging 4.75 for regular right now are less than half a mile apart. 76 cents more for the same gas right across the street! yea, thats not obvious...

Ya'll are LUCKY! There are places over 4.50 for regular..lowest I have seen for premium is 4.92, and I'm less than 48 hours from my son's wedding, so I have no choice to run like hell. My son luckily has a 4 cylnder little pick up, but he alone put 250 miles on his truck just today! Between 2 vehicles I ran 150 miles. Detailing one put 40 on its own, and it gets better mpg than the 8, but traffic was SO bad, because Cheney decided to come to town, I took it home. If I or anyone else put a scape on my husbands Jeep, I would never live it down. We've had that thing for a year and it's the recreation vehicle really. It only has 3050 miles on it, and I rolled over 3K just today. Luckily both came out unscathed, but seriously...there were a couple of really really close calls. People do NOT know how to drive in this city. Downtown Atlanta is easier!
