So I'm making the leap from the rx-7 fourm. I have an 88AE, a baby girl, and another on the way, so my wife has demanded that I have a car that she can drive with the little ones in a pinch if her Magnum breaks down. The comprimise (aka only way she could get me to let go of the 7) was to let me pick the car. I toyed with the idea of getting a WRX or a Mazdaspeed 3 (both of which are faster than the RX-8) but I'm just such a rotorhead and nothing compares to the look and feel of the RX-8. I'm making a move to the East Coast and I'll be getting myself a '09 or '10 GT when I get there.

A. I'd have to test drive the R3 first. I think I'd like a little more drivability and all leather seats.
B. Not mod friendly? I know. I have to finally admit that I don't have the time any more to screw around under the hood.
C. Anybody want to take the 10AE off my hands so I can get on with my 8?
D. J.K. this isn't a FS post, please don't take it down.

Well, if you're talking about pure performance, the WRX will out perform the RX-8. I'm just stating the facts. It's AWD and the STI is on par with some high end autoban cars. HOWEVER, you're preaching to the choir. I'm willingly going to spend an extra 5K-7K more on the RX-8. I only wish there was a turbo version. I am going to miss hearing the turbo spool up as I whip around someone driving way to slow. And no, I don't have the time or the resources to pull off a 20B 3 rotor with a monster turbo. Although I drool every time I see pictures of that one.

well the rotary has a humm to it so its a sound of its own thats amazing.
Saying the WRX out performs the rx8 in performance, is half true half not. Their both two different cars. Ones a sports car from deisgn the other is a supped up econo box though very fast and good handling econobox.
But when you sit inside a wrx then to a 8 there is a huge difference. Also your comparing a turbo'd car to a NA car with much less hp. Its pointless.
AWD is over rated, it doesnt really help all that much on track compared to RWD sport cars. But its really made for ralliart racing where it shines not the paved track.

I was looking at the WRX before i bought my 8. Honestly between the WRX and the Evo you get the same feeling. When you sit inside of them you feel like there is no difference between them and their "family" counterparts. One thing i loved about the 8 is sitting in it, you felt amazing. You felt that the car was uniquely designed. To each their own, but I am a huge fan of interiors and need to have a balance of power vs sweet insides.

yeah I like wrx's and evo's most definitely. But there's something that stands out with the 8 over them.
I'm just really want something else to come out and kill this sti/evo fanboism. Thats all I hear about now a days.

For what the OP is looking for, i would say the WRX is a fair candidate. Very nice car, fast, good handling, winter friendly, better fuel economy, easier access to the rear seats, etc.
Just sayin......
