Hi,
I have a engine coolant level warning light which keeps coming on now and again,
tests show no trouble with engine etc, water level ok, temp between the middle on guage car has only done 17000. Has any body any idea what could be causing the problem.

you could have an air bubble in your coolant tank. i had the same problem, im sure theres a better way to fix this than how i did it but it worked for me so if you wanna give it a shot take off the coolant cap and start your car and let it warm up. it'll be making a mess so keep an eye on the coolant level and add *** needed. after the cars warmed up the air bubble should be gone so just put the cap back on and there you go problem solved

You will notice that he was overfilling it as well(which I suspected), but the crux of the matter is the sensor and that post has pics to help you.

If you wanna read up more on it, then use advanced search and type in something like "coolant bottle" or coolant sensor" or some combination thereof.
