where did ppl get their ecu flash around chicago?
Hi
Currently, im getting horrible mileage, around 12 mpg. I have a 6-speed. I called my dealership, Wilkens, and they told me i can't get it flashed wit the new bitmap. They told me to wait till 10000 miles, then i would get better mileage. I know people who got the flashed got better mileage. Wondering where people got theirs and what they said to get it. I'm hoping this flash would help out my mileage. thanks in advance

I tried to get mine flashed....getting 13-15mpg. The dealer would not do it unless they had something from Mazda in regards to that. Good luck! I was told to wait till at least 5000 miles if not 10,000 miles before I worried about gas mileage.

the CEL story wont' work for me anymore as they will say it's caused by my winter tires and the TPS causing it (BS!)...anyhow, i actually did throw a solid CEL again but i'm waiting until i'm sure i can change my tires back to summer ones before i take it in so i can get another reflash...

I got mine done in Crystal Lake at Anderson BMW/Mazda/VW, where I bought my RX8. I happened to throw a CEL a couple days prior to my scheduled appt for the airbag recall, so I told them I wanted the flash to fix those CEL bugs and give me better mileage. They did it with no problem... and I am getting better mileage (18 vs 16.5).

I went to the dealer that I bought it from (Autobarn Evanston) and said that I have bad mileage and that I had CEL go on several times (which is bullshit). They actually tested the car, said they didn't find any error codes and so they will not flash it. However, I get bad mileage - around 14
Any ideas on where and how to get my ECU flashed?

ok, i started this topic. I acually got my ECU reflashed, hadnt had time to really test it because of it being in the shop for another reason. I got mine at Wilkens Mazda off of 290. I told them about rough idle and the exhaust making a pounding sound. It was true. but they did give me the flash for this reason

I was quoted $90 at Liberty Mazda in Libertyville. The dealer where I bought the car promised to do it for free, but that's going to be over an hour drive and I wouldn't be surprised if they renig on me.

As you know, I am not fond of dealerships in general!

Just got mine flashed today at Pugi Mazda in Downers Grove. I had a CEL on, car was starting roughly, felt a bit weak, and just not generally being a smooth operator. Gas mileage has been 15.5-16.5 consistently. I originally wanted them to swap in the HOT plugs, but they said the car needed to die out first before they did that. They flashed it with M, and the car is running gorgeously...can't comment on gas mileage yet though.
It's a smaller dealer, easy to get to, and they did a nice wash job on it even though it really didn't need one. Plus it's just fun to say Pugi. :D

Just finished my first tank of gas since the M flash...
Gas mileage has improved marginally so far. I used to get 16.5 or so at best, now I'm very close to 17 mpg...best yet. I guess that's good, right? Hopefully that's just the beginning.
Biggest difference (and quite surprising too) is the amount of soot on the tailpipes. I used to have a lot of trouble keeping them clean, but after 300-400 miles they're still relatively clean! Not sure if this can be attributed to the ECU flash or my car breaking in (I'm at 2500 miles or so), but whatever it was this was a nice welcome improvement!
The rest of the car seems to run smoother overall. It just has a better sorted-out feeling, which isn't saying much considering the car already felt like a dream.
I've been researching Canzoomer's mod and I'd love to pop that in since you can plug/unplug it rather easily without tipping off the dealer. Not willing to try it just yet, but I'll give it more serious thought in about 10k miles...or whenever the CEL decides to stay off for a long time. :D
BTW, anybody hear the Mazdaspeed exhaust yet? I wouldn't mind having a nice exhaust note AND a warranty!

I am really surprized at the Dealers here. They don't want to do anything under warranty. I tried to get my oil pan replaced and they refused. Ya think it was coming out of their pocket. If I ever get the light I am going to have the car flat bedded to the dealer even if is 2000 miles away and make them pay for it. I am going to ask for the L flash and if they balk at it i am going to call Mazda and tell them to come pickup the car and fix it.
