DIY: Cheap, Simple, Clean SOHN Tank
Hey guys, so I browsed for ideas about a SOHN tank and found a lot of people either removing their windshield washer fluid bottle, or running tanks from dirtbikes. Well I didn't like either of those ideas.
I bought a .75 Quart tank from US Plastics. <--click.
I really wanted to find a simple, clean ,effective way to mount it. I found on both sides of the Racing beat intake were perfect. I decided to mount mine on the driver side for easy checking and filling. First we had to make a little bracket.
You can go to any hardware store and pickup a 6 foot flat stock of aluminum and bend your own bracket up which is super easy.

Here's a picture of the tank with the bracket, resting on the front radiator support to clarify it's size. I secured it with thread inserts and bolts. But bolts and nuts work great too. After all I was going for a very clean install.
Now I had the bracket, so I simply measure a center point on the Racing Beat engine cover bracket. One bolt should be enough to hold the container and it's size. An additional bracket or more intricate bracket can be made, but I felt it would be overkill. Simply remove the bottom bolt from the engine cover bracket and position it in the tank bracket. You need an open end wrench or ratcheting wrench to install the tank bracket to the engine cover bracket.
Here is a picture of the tank mounted.

A couple shots of wide views. Fits under the engine cover perfectly.
Sorry for the yucky flash.

(Excuse the ugly amp wire)

Most important part (For me). Enjoy having room for your windshield washer fluid, A quart of your favorite oil, a small funnel, and your catch can! While .75 Quart is pretty small I figure it's very practical - being that I'll check it with every re-fueling.
Once spring hits I'll be able to see how quickly it drains, etc.
Also wondering if anyone has found high quality clear hose to run?
Hope you enjoyed!
Edit - uploaded pics per website server.
