Ohlins for the street-overkill?
My SBC RX8 will be coming together soon (yeahhhh--maybe), and I wanted to get some feedback on the question above.
I have searched on the topic, but most who run any Ohlins hardware made the purchase for track performance.
I have had Ohlins dampers on motorcycles before, and appreciate the quality. They were worth the $$$.
My question just concerns these for use on the street.
Who runs them on the street, if anyone, and how do they perform, for 95-100% street use?
Also, am I crazy to consider this option?

if you want it to handle the best possible on the street without it being harsh it’s the way to go. It or Bilstein are the only thing I recommend for coil-overs other than pure race shocks. The B16/PSS9 is the only other one I’d recommend, but if you can afford it the nod goes to Öhlins.

No problem. The OE rates only seem soft because the extra long progressive OE bumpstops are intentionally designed to serve as secondary springs. I’m not aware of anyone actually measuring the combined total rate of them together for an effective comparison. I was just a bit surprised that you were discussing and referencing them without already having that understanding of the spring rates and other particulars. Pretty sure the rear rate is actually 5kg/mm - 280lb/in rather than the noted 4kg though. That’s been discussed on the forum too.
Myself and others used 400#/300# back in the early street tire autocross class days and that was fairly compliant and balanced on race shocks without the DFV feature. As you noted, it should be fine; sporty without excessive harshness. I’m sure you’ll be very happy with them. Congratulations, actually.

I use the Ohlins coilovers on my RX8, which is mainly used for street use and I found the standard spring rates to be too soft in the rear but the fronts to be fine.
I changed my rear springs to about 350lbs/in and it feels pretty good to me now.
