To Bra or not to Bra...

Anyone have a Velocity Red Grand Touring with a Bra? I am debating whether or not to get one and would love to see a picture.

Thanks!

mazda brand

i have the mazda brand bra and velocity red. some people do not like it, i could care less what they think. after the first week, oil cooler fins and front was all chipped i did modify it slightly, sewed some soft fabric on the tabs as the tabs scrached the paint and cut off center tab. i will be cutting around the mazda emblem and resewing so that it shows through, but i have to find someone with a sewing machine. i remove it each week when i wash, it takes 1 minute off and 2 min on (dang, those snaps are tight!). a pic can be found from our last outing here:

I have a bra I bought from Trussville when I first got my car. It served as a temporary protectant until I got my clearbra. I must say I really did like the look of the mazda bra. It fit perfectly. Anyway I don't need it anymore, if anyone's interested in taking it off my hands PM me.

I'm not sure how much, but its more money. But it doesn't matter, just get the clear bra, premium or not; the regular bra makes you car look like sh*t (no offense to those with it)

I had the 3M clear bra put on the hood and fenders. to buy the kit to DIY was $180 or for $225 it was intalled ( well worth the bit extra ). The front bumper was I belive about $200ish installed . I'm thinking about going back and getting that done

I'm not fond at all of the big black bra look. I don't care what it does for the car, makes it look bad. As for the clear bra ... still not my style but a decent compromise

I full 3M bra bumper, hood, mirrors for $475 installed...it's well worth it IMO. With the titanium you can see a line when the sun shines directly on it...that's the only downside.

I have a RoadBlock bra that came on my car, for 300 bucks, and it SUCKS. It's not nearly as glossy as the rest of the car and it looks like crapola. The guy is supposed to replace it, he said it's a bad one. I asked him if it was a bad one, why the hell did he put it on? No answer.
I'll give him a shot to replace it. If the new one is no better than the rest I saw at the dealer, I'll have him remove it.
The other problem is all the big, nasty bugs we have in Florida. They splat really nicely on the clear bra and then you can't get them off. If you rub, at all, it mars the vinyl and you can't polish it out. No matter how much wax you apply, the mar is still visible.
The guy knows I'm not happy and seems to be afraid I'll want my money back. I won't tell him how much I've spent on experimental racing parts that didn't work................I have a big old wooden box full of them!!

The Mazda Bra may look bad, but for those that drive in winter conditions and deal with rock salt damage, these bras works great! Afterall, during winter your RX-8 will look damn awefull with ice and slush, a bra will not make much a difference.

functionallity

for us, it was functionallity over looks ....i know most don't like the bra look, however it beats the chipped paint look. it fits snug and doesnt flap around. and it accents the rest of the black on the red (oil cooler vents, rear bumper spoiler, black on mirrors, black interior, tires).

Bra on velocity red 2004 picture

The first week I had the car I received a chip from a rock on the freeway. There is no way that touch up paint can fix that. I bought a bra and the problem of chips is solved. For $100, I highly recommend it.

I have had nothing but compliments on the look of the bra on my velocity red 2004. My car is almost always garaged or covered. I only remove the bra about every 2 weeks to wash.

Here is a picture.

These days I prefer Smith or Action Optics polarized sunglasses.

I'm new around here, and will be picking up my 8 this weekend. I'm really stoked about a car for the first time in my life, with the exception of getting my first car.

Who cares if the paint is nice if you can't see it

But seriously, the big cause of front-end chips is following traffic too closely. Stones don't spend their time hovering in air, they only do so as vehicles disturb or drop them and then they fall to earth again. Allow more space and get out of the "chip zone". You can't avoid them all but still can make a huge difference. Not fond of bras myself

The bra is ment to be a functional item its not about looking good but doing the job of protecting your hood and bumper from stone chips .

Once fitted its an excellent tight fit , easy to remove .
The clear bra will discolour in time and see what happens when you try and remove it after a duration of time .

Over time, a regular bra will make the paint of your car look uneven. The sun naturally fades your paint a little bit as the car ages, even if you take good care of it. The bra will keep this from happening in the parts that it covers, so eventually the front of the car will be a noticeably darker color than the rest of it and your car will look weird. At least that's what that Pat Goss dude on Motorweek says. He said don't use 'em at all, that they are a bad idea. I don't know whether that's true of the clear bras too, but I suspect they have UV inhibitors in them, so probably that will cause the same problem. Of course, if the front is all chipped up, that looks like s*it too, so pick your poison I guess. Maybe use a bra in northern climates in the winter where sun fading is no big deal, but keep them off in places like Florida where UV beats on your car every day and the color fades faster?
