Grinded going from 4th to 5th...consequences?
Hey everyone,
Just looking for some input. I was on the tollway near Chicago and decided to have some fun so I gunned it and as I was going through my shifts, I slightly grinded going from 4th into 5th. I backed off and then shifted with no prob. Just wondering if I have anything to worry about or this one time grind should be no major issue? Thanks.

im sorry but your transmission is blown. lol just playing. if you dont grind a gear once in a while your probably not human. its not good for the trans but im sure you'll be ok. just don't make a habbit of it.

You must be a new driver or new to manual trannies. If you grind every single day, eventually you can ruin tranny. Truth is it's gonna happen sometimes and will not ruin tranny. It's under warranty though , so why even think about it. Just don't ever mention the mi-shifting if it does ever fail.

I've never grinded while driving, but I have accidently not put the car completely into reverse, and managed to instead get it half way into 6th. Causing a slight grinding noise as I hit the gas to move the car...

Grinding happens. It's just part of driving a manual transmission. It's just the dog teeth not engaging the gear properly when you haven't depressed the clutch fully. And dog teeth are pretty sturdy so it would take lots of abuse to affect the union between them and the gears
