RX-8 TRI STATE CLUB Mazda Car Care Clinic & North Hunterdon Run | JUNE 4th 05
An early start, but a fun event....
OVERVIEW OF MEET
This event begins with a 50 mile run through the scenic northern part of Hunterdon County - followed by Flemington Mazda's annual Car Care Clinic and free buffet lunch. We will be joining Del Val Miata Club on the day, Buck Foutain, President will be incharge of the 50 mile run. For those that would rather skip the drive, members may meet the club directly at Flemmington Mazda. Their clinic will start at 11am onwards. Please make sure you have contacted the club to make a reservation for Oil change and check up!
The following is quoted from Del Vals Monthly Bulletin
"General Manager Ernie Tufo says the Car Clinic will offer an oil and filter change, plus a 27-point safety check inspection for the special price of $18.00 (tax included) for Miatas (& RX-8's), or just the 27 point inspection, which will be free. All work will be performed by Mazda certified technicians and provided on a first come-first served reservation basis.
Please note that this will be a coupon event for the oil-filter-safety check portion of the event. Slots will be limited so please sign up early! But do not sign up for the free inspection unless you are relatively sure you will be there - since Flemington Mazda will be paying their technicians overtime to do this work for us.
New Mazdas will on display for this event, including Miatas and the new Mazdaspeed Mazda 6. Also, representatives from Mazda North America are preparing a special presentation for us and will be available to answer any questions.
We will also have Flemington Car and Truck Country's own paintless dent removal expert for this event. Costs for dent removal will depend on the dents and will be quoted on the spot."

You folks will like this, been there, done that... Don't know if the 8 folks do this sort of run, just driving around, not fast at all, but with a lot of curving roads. I have done such things many times for delval, and have one later this month, on the 22nd. Great thing to try, better thing to lead, be it in my 8, or my STO, or even once leading in an outback..
If your interested, go to the DELVAL.ORG site for info, and a CB radio is nice to have.
Last one I did last year was in the 8 , and it was spirited too say the least..
A delval run typically meets earlyish 10/11 am, and drives for an hour or two, before the important part of the run happens, the EATING part of the day...
BTW, are your folks interested in some HPDE time in August at Pocono's famed north course..?.. yep, Delval does that too... look here at lvmoc.net for the gallery of 300+ shots of miata and OTM having fun in the sun on a (high speed) run.

Well, there will be two days at Pocono's NORTH course, on August 1 (required day for newbies), and second day on August 2 (monday/tuesday)... Lots of fun, $200 per day, but you need to sign up soon, as the newbie class fills fast. If you see a seedy old man in a durty old miata #57, that will be slow_eddie.
If you want info, go to delval.org (home page), look under events or motorsports..
If you want to see some pictures of the track day last year, go to www.lvmoc.net, and open the gallery section to see what it's all about. If you find the old man teching the car, it's me.
More info on HPDE can be found on www.phillyscca.com site, or pdadrivingschool.com or
the NASA site.
If you want more info, just post here...
I won't be up at the event on the 4th, as I'll be on the way to Summit Point WVA, to see how the track suits me.. Hope you all have fun, and if anyone wants a nice ride this sunday, post here, as I lead an event from Valley Forge PA to French Creek to Reading's Pagoda atop Mt Penn, a nice back country run, with lunch at a local diner around 1:00 PM
slow_eddie, whose knows the truth of the statement... fast is fun, but fastER is funNER

I might be there, if so, it will be in the yellow rocket 8. Fouled up my driver's side brake caliper on the miata last night, so Summit Point might not happen. Can't track a car without good brakes. With luck , I'll get the caliper mount bracket, and the lower slide pin. Then all I have to do is stick the driver's brake back on, and get the 'Lanny's alignment. Found the new Toyo T1-R tires on my front porch, so they will be mounted. So, if everything works, the folks at Summit Point will see a newbie (to THAT track) in a miata . If luck isn't nice to me, I'll come up to harass the miatae in the 8. on the saturday run. If anyone here is coming for the ride section, bring a CB if you have one. Buck Anderson leads a good twisty ride.

Everyone : This has been a quiet thread. those who want to make the drive, meet the miata club at 9AM sharp, while those interested in servicing at Flemington, 11AM or just earlier as many miatas have planned appointments.
I will be there just after 11. Lookforward to seeing you all!

Well, it was nice to see those that came, for at least the 5 minutes that I was there! Hopefully, I can make it to the next event. It sound like the 50mi run would've been fun.

Irish, I was south, down exploring the mystery of the carosel at the Shenadoah course of Summit. Nice course, once I got the fear of flying , aiming uphill at 80, and seeing nothing but blue sky ahead. My poor instructor was jubilant, one the fourth loop, with no 'lifting' on my part. The only downside of the uphill rush, is the fast braking, and the entrance to the pie-panish shaped mini-bowl. The diameter is about 100 feet, with a thirty degree angle, and you enter it at 50, and push the pedal down, as you are ejected at speed, ready for the fast left coming at you. This is FUN, sort ol like a vastly expanded Pocono east course, but with lots of elevation changes. Even saw a fast yellow rocket 8, with a quick driver, passing this slow eddie a lot.
