URGENT: Insurance - Help please

Hi Guys, am abt to put a deposit but have just been quoted $2200 for insurance by AXA!! Seems way to high for my profile - over 40 and 10%NCB. Help please - do you know of which companies to ask for a better rate? Thanks, Nael

Take it lah....2200 is not that ex lah.
NTUC will prob quote you 2000 before NCB, but when it comes to claims, you will wish you had paid that extra few hundred dollars.

Thats cheap! I am paying 3k under NTUC; though i am 25 y.o. with 30% NCD.

Bro. You cannot compare a insurance for a saloon to a high-performance sports-car. Thats the going insurance rate.

Uhhh....don't know what you guys are willing to shell out, but 2K for insurance????? Don't care how less painful it is when you try to claim, but getting slammed with that much is almost close to being raped!!

If you have a clean driving record, AND have a Costco membership, they have THE best rate..at least from where I'm living..I'm paying roughly $360/6 month!!! AMEX Assurance Company...1-888-404-5365...I have both my cars and house insurance under their plan, so get a little bonus with the fees, but nevertheless, I like to see others out there do better! Hope that helps...

BTW, their rate are ALOT better than Nationwide --AND-- AIG!!

BTW, this is a car that only a few insr compaines will insure.

If you want to save money, go for NTUC. Call direct and you will save the 10% comm paid to the broker.

I'm getting $1880.00 before NCD with $1500 excess.
I tried claiming from NTUC, generally slightly more leh cheh coz have to get damage assessed and reported at IDAC. Then the workshop choice is selected by them thorough tender. Because they choose the lowest priced tenderer, just have to be careful when taking over your car and signing off.

More importantly is the excess, try to bring as low as possible.
standard rate is $3000.00.

I am 36 yrs old NTUC insurance Quality Plus $1233 after 40% NCD Excess:Windscreen $100

I've just collected my car 2 weeks back after repair, they even throw me a new sets of rims.

For Quality Plus
1. Free courtesy car for 14 days
2. No need to pay any excess
3. 6mth warranty for repaired done.
4. Hassle free, just tow your car to IDAC(FOC) about 15 days later collect your car from the NTUC authourised workshop

BTW this is my first claim after nearly 16 yrs of driving

icyur2, you gotta check which region you are posting in. We are talking in Singapore Dollars which is 1.7 times less than US Dollars. So S$2K is under US$1.2K and if you still think that's expensive, consider this - an RX-8 here cost between S$100K-S$130K which is around US$59K-US$76K.

Hi sqflyer

Since we are in Spore and talking abt Spore dlrs, maybe the illustration will be better if we talk USD in the US.

So if a car is worth USD 130,000, what will be the insurance like in the States? Will it cost abt USD 1200/year after no claims bonus??

Cheers

Dang! If i knew about that earlier then it could have saved me a few hundred dollars. Just paid last week for my new road tax and insurance.
Actually possble to be lower meh cause they already sent me a letter with the quotation, both the company and NTUC.

EBS, good idea... we gotta ask icyur2 for the answer on this one. Even though I lived in the States for 3+ years, I couldn't afford a US$130K car...

That seems a bit high. I am no 40 but was quoted much lesser by AXA before NCB. Did you have any claims in the recent years? That could drive up your premium.

Oh...gotcha. Yeah, in that scenario, I could see why they are whacking people that much..130K?? I wouldn't pay that much anyway for a car, no matter how well it performs..damn..

If I was Bill Gates..sure

Bro,

1. If repairs exceed 14 days, you are on your own...and the coutesy cars are crap! They skid so easily, damn dangerous!

2. If and only if you are not at fault.

3. 6mth is crap if yourcar is new, dont forget MM warranty is 3 yrs. An MM wont honour wats done by workshop.

* NTUC uses lowest quote to repair...are you concerned about quality of work?

Just my 2 cents worth...

When i visited my cousin in Vegas last year; he had just bought a AMG c-class for US$55k.

Right, it does not make sense to pay US$130k for a car when everyone is only paying US$20k-US$30k. In SG, it does not matter that much to pay $130k when "normal" cars costs about $60k-70k.

Suddenly, i realised SG may actually mean SlauGhterland.

I am sure Bill Gates will not bother himself with US$100k plus cars unless he buy its to host his own bumper car party.

I think you might be able to get the dealer to do your repairs if it is still under warranty. Eg, if you bought your car from MM, and your car is less than 3 years, you should insist on going back to MM rather than their authorised workshop. NTUC does use cheapest quote and they often use reconditioned part(2nd hand) or non-original part and that would void your car's warranty. I know NTUC would allow you to go back to MM if you have gotten your car from them as i know of ppl who had made claims.

Guys, thanks for all your input - have decided to stay with AXA especially after I spoke to Mazda and they said that the warranty would indeed be void if work was carried out by anyone apart from Mazda. Maybe I am just lazy and a bit scared of the amount of effort it would take to convince NTUC......

I had a claim with NTUC about 5-6 years ago. When the car came back, it look ok on the outside but its sad looking on the inside. My car was about 1.5 years old but i did not insist on repairing with Kah motors because it was difficult (at that time) to get them to repair at Kah motors and my car was damaged quite seriously and i just wanted it repaired asap.

Then again, it discourages blatant claims. If they repair it so well, it may not hurt as much when you get into a accident.

And supposedly they charge the cheapest for insurance.
