RX 8 (A) vs WRX

Is the 8 that bad? i doubt the wrx driver can launch his car according to the spec 5.9 sec. unless he can do his shift in a fraction of a sec. we should be able to capitalise on that. just my 5 cents point of view.

With AWD you can launch with almost full HP if you're willing to sacrifice some clutch. I did it with my AWD Talon for years (and several clutches...).
You can't hope to match a turbo AWD in the first couple hundred feet because you can't put down all your HP with smoking the tires, where he can do so without any wheel slip.

Thinking about selling my 8. My 97 1.8TQ Audi quattro is as fast if not faster in the 0-60 department and the all wheel drive is a plus in Utah. We don't even need to mention the gas mileage. My 8 has pretty much been sitting in my drive for the past two weeks.
It costs a fraction to upgrade performance on the audi for a substantial gain.
Not trying to hijack the thread. Just thought while we were talking about AWD that i may as well bring it up.

Don't get the wrong idea. I love the 8. There are a lot of other factors in play here. Not the least of which being that i am already almost 3,000 miles over on my yearly miles for my lease. That's right, lease. This pretty much means that between my warranty and my lease, i can't do any fun mods even if i could afford them. Makes me sad because i love the style and handling but i want a little more response in the butt dyno.
I just keep thinking that if i was not paying that $400 a month, i could be dumping it into some awsome peformance mods on my audi. Can you say 325 whp potential for around 3k.

hmm....i don't know
My buddy has an 06 wrx and, on a closed course, we did some pulls together. To our surprise the cars are very close. We even swapped drivers to account for driver error. We did two 0-70 runs and one 40-110 run. Every time the cars were pretty damn close. On the 0-70 runs the wrx got me by a whole foot. And on the faster run the cars hugged each other.
my car has 20,000 miles, check my sig for mods..keeps in mind i have two subs, a computer, and dynamat
his car has about 1,500 miles and is stock
oh yea, the rx-8 handles much better

Let's keep in mind here that the original question is comparing an AUTO 8 against a WRX, both in stock form. In my opinion, NA RWD vs Turbo AWD = no chance at all. Coolvolka, the WRX can do a 5.9s on paper, but an AUTO 8's time is closer to 10s. I'm not putting the 8 down, don't get me wrong I drive an 8 myself but like Emperor said, it's not the only reason to buy the 8. In any case, it's not even a remotely close comparison.

Not gonna happen even on track unless you go more laps, just watch BMI Rotary Reborn. The only OBVIOUS/More Significant advantage the 8 has is braking.

yea, i'm sure a auto wrx would kill a auto rx-8

Tks for all the comments. I would have got myself a wrx if not for the stunning looks of the 8. Actually, i beat my friend's wrx twice out of the 3 times we race. He might not be good at his gear shift but its only at the 3rd and 4th gear that i beat him. The 1st and 2nd gear, i was 1 car behind. cheers for the 8.

sorry guys if I offend anyone ... but I must say .... what is the fun of running straight line? Is that the kinda driving we are looking at? Straight line acceleration? Then I bike will do the job very very well indeed. In fact a high end bike will take on almost all road legal cars on a straight line acceleration. Drive properly and learn the correct driving line, braking point, braking technique ....power application etc etc.... are more important then just floor the throttle and expect the best.......
I see most ppl here loves to make their car go very very fast on straight line and most of them can't drive for sure ....upgrade this and upgrade that .... wat I think is important is "upgrade" their own driving skills should be the ultimate priority. Not the car to start off with..... sad to say but come to think about it .... how many driver out there can actually release the full potential of their car????? I dare to say not many..........

My sentiments exactly. Its way more fun with corners.
Straight line is fun but its only a small part of driving. And most probably it takes more skills to corner than to run fast straights.
