Upshift from 2 to 4?
Hi guys,
Goodday. I am a noob with manual, too much auto for me. A question: When in gear 2, even just pushing to 3k-4k rpm, the speed can reach around 40kph+. If I upshift to 3, showhow like got engine brake. Any prob if I shift direct to 4, the shift is smooth and doesnt give me any feeling of engine brake?
Asked a few pple but got mixed reply. Wanna know if any bros has experience in tt area.
Thanks.

The engine breaking you're feeling is most likely due to you upshifting to 3rd while you're pretty high in second AND you not giving it enough throttle to match the rpm's as you complete the shift.
As mentioned before just wait a bit when upshift to 4 from 2, so that the rpm's fall enough so that your shift is smooth

Thanks bro for the advice. I really need more practice...after getting the car for a few days, I have finally overcome the fear of stalling. Despite the "trouble" of driving a manual 8, I never look back.

The 8 is my first manual car, Ive been driving it for 2 weeks, and I feel 70% as profcient behind the wheel of my MT as I did an AT before.
As my brother wisely put it, "Stop letting the car drive you, and drive the car."
Just relax, try not to think about the trows too much, just do what feels natural, shift how you imagine a car should shift... it becomes second nature very fast.
Keep at it man, Im just really getting the hang of downshifting/heel+toeing. Everyday we drive we get better.
+1 for new Manny drivers!!!!
