When I was shopping for my 8, I wanted one w/o DSC. I couldn't get one in the color I wanted and the color won.
I don't think Mazda North America would sell one, other than the base car, without DSC.

The Canadian version also comes with a nifty French portion in the owner's manual so that the naturally bilingual folks can read a little while the car warms up enough for the moose to pull it out of the garage.

i bought my 8 about a month ago and lately ive been regretting not getting the dsc option. my buddy and i took our 8's out the other day and i was following him and around corners his car would be fine but my back end would break free. talking to him later he said that he saw the dsc light up ( i guess it looks like 2 squigly tire tracks ) around the corners. just a side note: we were not even going overly fast just pretty much normal driving, maybe a little aggresive. so does anybody know if mazda could actually put this option on my car? or is there something aftermarket that i could use? thanks in advance for the info

I'd imagine that that really is one of those things that mazda wouldn't be able to add on. Although it's likely to only be controlled by the ECU, i've learned that there is always more to these systems then you'd imagine, no matter how easy they sound.
Take trying to add an aftermarket cruise control. Sounds easy...ha. Give it a try. I'll see you a few days later.

Suspension and tires should help with traction. An LSD would help also; the electronic aids only help if you're going zoomy through lower traction areas to retain control. Sliding should tell you that you're running out of traction, and that you ought to back off or expect to go off...
