Steering Tilt
I tried my best to search for a related thread, but only found the standard bitching about no telescoping.
My tilt-lock lever on my steering column worked itself loose enough so that when I went over a bump, my steering wheel popped up. I had the dealership tighten it down, but I can already feel it loosening back up. Does anyone know of a long term solution, or is the thing just a piece of **** that needs to be tightened every so often?
It should be noted that I like the steering wheel low, and have to raise it to get my legs in and out of the car, so it is getting a lot of use.

If you had to adjust it every time you drive then I think its only reasonable the **** needs to be tightened all the time. Bottomline you have bad driving position.

I don't believe the tilt feature is designed to be used every time you get into and out of your car. Tilting it so far down that you have to raise it again before you get out of your car is a little much. Like yiksing mentioned, if you use it radically like that, prepare to perform frequent maintenance. It pays to play.

That doesn't sound right, I leave mine all the way up and lock it. I think it's the perfect position for daily and autocross and i'm about 6'0 and like to drive sitting fairly straight up with my arms crossed my wrists hit the top of the wheel.

OK guys, so I'm a piece of **** driver. Yikes. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with a tilt coming loose on any car. It's like steering-wheel tilt locks are your girlfriends or something; so sorry to offend! Question withdrawn.

This may sound crazy but I think if you lubricate it some it will be less likely to work itself loose as often. The constant movement of the material against itself is what is working it loose, so some lubrication will mean less friction and perhaps less often need to tighten. It should still lock the wheel in place even with some lubrication.

Personally, I'm with it's a piece of **** camp. OK, so no "normal" person adjusts the tilt every time they get in and out of the car, but it is a tilt feature, and all he is doing is tilting it. Think if he was sharing the car with a really short wife. They would be doing the same thing so that each of them could be comfortable. No, I think that it shouldn't be loosening up no matter what, and since this is a safety hazard (popping up while driving) you need to have it fixed. If you are still under warranty, this is a slam dunk. just take it to the dealer and have it replaced (I would also stop adjusting it so much if I were you after it gets replaced).
I like the idea of lubricating it. Unfortunately, I think that that boat may have sailed since the unit is already loose, but certainly worth shot.
