Oil Cap - Warning.....

Oil Cap - Warning.....
Just a funny story while checking the oil levels....
On a wonderful afternoon just before driving..... I go and check the oil level... and whala! It needs a little bit...
SO I take the oil cap off, add some oil, and when I go to place the oil cap back on, the cap slips off my hand and falls in the engine compartment....... And it dissapeared!!!!! Just like that!
Everything is so crowded under the hood that the oil cap was not in sight. I tryed to crawl underneath, but it is pretty unacessible as well.....
Well.... here I am with no oil cap - therefore very upset = no driving......
It took me about 1 hour to recover the oil cap.... after disconnecting the battery and taking off the battery holder/bucket in order to have more hand clearance... finally, assemble everything back in place.... put the oil cap on..... connect the battery...... and ready to drive again... (after 1 agonising hour)....
NOTE: After starting the car, I had to go through the procedure of activating the DSC/TSC again as indicated in the owners manual..
Just a word of caution for those of you out there who had not experienced this problem.... BE CAREFULL NOT TO DROP THE OIL CAP IN YOUR ENGINE COMPARTMENT. You might have to go through a great deal to recover it....

Speaking of oil caps, keep an eye on the gasket as well. Mine has a tendency to sometimes stick to the filler neck. It could easily fall into "black hole" and would probably be nearly impossible to find.

Had the same happen to me but couldn't find the cap. I used the oil wipe paper to form a plug to block the fill hole and drove home. Cap came loose and fell under the car on the freeway and broke into a zillion pieces. Got a new cap next day.

this is a funny thread! i once drove around with a pair of wire cutters in my engine bay for 3 months!! good old rotaries must be magnetic or something. but I'll remember the oil cap one. how about if someone invents a top with a string connected from the cap top to the engine somewhere? like the old people have a string from their hats to their shirt collars so it doesnt blow away....or is it only a japanese thing?
