"Listen to this important message by...." STFU!
There seems to be a new wave of this type of spam attacking message boards everywhere. Is there something you can do to prevent this from happening? Can you impose a rule that does not allow the new member to post threads for the first 3 days of joining the forum, or limiting how many threads can be started in one day? I noticed a similar attack happened last night and there wasn't a mod or admin around to stop him. Should we recruit more mods/admins? What is the current power does a mod have, because I think it would make sense to allow a mod to close threads, if not, allow them to erase what is written in the thread until an admin or super mod can delete/ban them at least.

they were all erased yesturday, I pm'd boostd7 about them again.
I am sure when they ban them they ban the ip address they are using but if they use another computer they have to ban that ip address too. Kind of a never ending battle until they run out of ip's.

I agree these attacks are unacceptable, but Omicron had one such attack cleaned up in 5 minutes flat yesterday. It's nice our moderators are effective, but it's a shame it makes extra work for them.
Anyone ambitious enough to try to track down their location and *ahem* have a word with them in person?

Smooth Criminal
we had the same problem on our local club forum. Some dude for an online casino was posting a bunch of random crap all over. We had to get rid of him. It is really annoying. People with nothing better to do i guess.

The best way to handle the SPAMMERS is to report them as soon as you see them, using the report button in the top-right-hand corner of the post. I think the MODs get these messages and take action as soon as they receive the report. They're pretty good about jumping on these guys pronto.
