Exclamation More Moderators...

Maybe set chosen mods for each subforum so those mods will be able to better control the excessive posting of nonsense. This is the only car forum that I've seen posts hundreds of pages long with random crap.

There ARE chosen mods for each subforum. Just use the report post button to get one's attention, or check down at the bottom right in each and you'll see a list of mods for that forum.

It always makes me laugh when people complain about threads they don't like or TV channels, or magazines...........Use the ultimate tool.....your brain..............and don't READ, WATCH OR EVEN PICK UP things that don't interest you.

I think the mods on this forum do a much better job than most in riding the fine line between control and censure

Just my 2 cents worth

Theres one example I found in a matter of seconds... I bet that thread could be at least half the size it is without all the worthless crap.

I fail to understand why this bothers you so much. What you find to be 'worthless crap' others may enjoy. Nobody is forcing you to read it.

What do you have to do that is so important you can't take a few minutes to sift through some info you don't care about? I am a member of a lot of car forums, and they are all similar to this one in their random crap levels.

Ahhhh, Richard's Axial Flow Supercharger thread claims another hapless victim. If you had actually read it all (which you haven't), you'd have read that Richard has only limited time to access a computer and post about his ongoing developments. Regular readers know this and bump the thread with talk on jet engines et al....It keeps us amused and shows Richard we are still following his project with great interest.

If you have no interest in Richard's gear, don't read the thread....it's simple, Simon .

I've read the entire thread. Thats not the problem. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of good info in it but there are also many personal attacks and useless comments. Whatever... I guess I was just ranting more than anything as I doubt any mods are going to go around deleting posts...

Personally I am very interested in Richard's progress on the Axial Flow supercharger but do find it very annoying when I get an e-mail that says there has been activity on the thread. Only to find that it is someone saying "bump" or discussing aviation trivia. When something gets off topic they should start a new thread. In this case it should have been an aviation axial flow thread in the lounge. All of the people interested in that discussion could then follow/participate in a separate dedicated thread.

I run into this all of the time in meetings at work. It is not uncommon for us to get side tracked while discussing the R&D and manufacturing of a part. When it becomes obvious that the off topic conversation is going to be more lengthy than a passing comment we are asked to take the discussion off line. Meaning that it is a great idea but this is not the time nor the place to discuss it. So after the meeting we would continue the "off topic" conversation in a more appropriate time/place. In this case that would be a new thread. This setup works really well for keeping the information flowing and really doesn't stifle new ideas. It just asks that they are discussed independently.

Speed Racer, I've got about 30 threads I subscribe to (some of them so old I use them as bookmarks if I want to go back and quote something...), and I chose the option of not being notified by email. That way I just check my subscribed threads each time I visit the site and don't have any crud filling my inbox...

If you really were reading that thread, then you'd have noticed that a forum moderator did post very recently in response to the suggestion that the thread had gone off-topic. The moderator judgement call was made!

Gordon
