Once the car comes out...please no "kills" section

Someone mentioned this in another thread. Here's why I don't like the idea:

I think it would be a better place without a "Kills" section. I dunno, I just look at places like clubsi.com and streetkiaz.com (hahaha), and those places suck, mainly because of their "kills" section.

Those boards are full of 17-year-olds with huge egos. This place will be filled with an older and much more mature crowd. I think having a kills section wouldn't be in the best interest of the board.

Of course, that's how it is on the i-club, and I think it's a better place because of it (although with the WRX now, things have changed a bit). Street racing is stupid, and I don't think it's something we should promote.

Hopefully teenyboppers can't afford an rx-8. I want it to be overpriced so it'll be more unique instead of every angst ridden teeny driving around like Honda civics

you can do what www.focaljet.com did. they have a motorsports forum that they discuss legal racing in (i.e. drag strip, autox, track days) but all threads about street racing are deleted. i think that would work here.

Ruler_Mark: a "kill" is defined as a victory in a street race.

I agree, no kill section.

exactly. That's what we do on the Impreza board and it works nicely. Have a Motorsports section where you can talk about AutoX, track days, Professional Race series' and the like...but delete street racing threads. We don't need this nice place littered with that garbage.

streetkiaz.com
HAHAHAHAHAHA! - how do you find this stuff.

Yeah - I read some of the kills section topics on the RX7 site - and I thought it was retarded

-I'll agree with the mods on this one.

Maybe create a kills section, put in a hyperlink to streetracing.org, then lock the forum. :D

No, create a locked forum you can't post in, but has a hyperlink to streetracing.org.

Got plenty of time for that option, tho.

I completely agree with everyone else. A "Kills" section would be a huge mistake.

I'm not sure how old everyone else is that has contributed to this thread. But I'm 22, and grew up in this obnoxious Honda Civic hot rod era and have flat out hated it.

I'm a purist when it comes to looks, outside of factory cosmetic additions I never like to do anything more. They always draw attention from the wrong people.

My reasons for not wanting a Kills section are the same as why I will not see "The Fast and the Furious." It's all a bunch of BS that responsible enthusiasts don't need.

i agree totally.

back in the day, i was the president of columbusdsm.com, and i helped start columbusracing.com.... both here in columbus ohio. well, the kill sections always ruined everything. it starts way too many arguments, and gets people flamed sideways like theres no tomorrow.

i left both of those boards because they're filled with immature 17-year olds with civics who like to race during rush hour or camaro drivers who are 40 years old, but going on 12 years old, that feel they get some surge of power by ordering everyone around and talking smack to anyone with an import car.

*shrug*

funny this thread comes up. i've always thought kill sections were bad, but nobody agreed with me. im glad you guys do.

everyone here is great. you're all the coolest.

I'm with the majority on this one. Its stupid, and brings the whole forum IQ down to that of a house plant.

With that said, you won't be edited for telling us how the car compares performance-wise against the current sport coupes and sedans(i.e. test drives). Lets see if we can make that distinction without it being a posted "kill".

Maybe...

If you have a kill section it keeps the "garbage" out of the main discussion forum. Those who don't like the kills section don't have click. Just like pornographic or violent Channels you don't have to watch. No matter what kills will make it on to a board occasionally. BTW Fast & the Furious was a fun car movie, sure the dialog was bone stupid but it was good racing. My favorite car movie is Ronin. Best stuff ever was the BMW Hire movies by Brucheimer, Ang Lee, Guy Ritchie, etc.... Note I would never abuse my car like these guys on film just like I would never pick a fight with 6 guys to show my Kung Fu skills.

I might abuse my car like in Ronin if it meant getting a glimpse in that suitcase. :D

RONINS HAS NITROUS

I wish they had more shots of the two-stage nitrous oxide kit in Ronin.... when they're getting ready to go under the bridge, and the one guy is loading up the car, he pops the truck and for a split second.... whats that? a big blue bottle? nice... but, as i said, only for a couple seconds.

i love nitrous. i've got it on my talon. too many people say it's pointless or dangerous or only for cheaters... but i've had it for almost 2 years, and it's been a blast. very very fun stuff.

hrm... i wonder how much i could pump through the rx-8.... ??? anyone care to take a guess?

On our club forum we don't condone street racing. Ergo, we don't have a "kill" forum. It's been two years and we haven't had any issues about it. Then again, our board is very mature compared to other "import enthusiast" boards..

We run the MR2 board so that street racing stories and kill stories are not allowed, and are deleted as soon as they are seen. We allow comparisons between our and other cars, and we have separate forums for Auto-xing, Road-racing, drag-racing (on track, mind you), and safety equipments/mods (harnesses, roll bars, etc.).

One exception that we've made is that we will allow people to post URLs to news stories about the subject (whether it's a fatality/injury, or police round-up, or expose'), and comment on them.

So far, that has worked for us, especially considering the fact that we do have alot of immature participants who do alot of street racing.
