I'm new to the board and located in South Florida, I feel closer to the time the car comes out and shortly after this boards members will multiply several times but a meet would be nice, just don't be to pre-emptive about it.

I've got a great idea for a RX-8 gathering!
Here’s what we should do for a RX-8 rally. A week or two before the RX-8 is available to dealers, Mazda should invite us to Road Atlanta or some other road course to demo the RX-8 on a real race track. That would be great! We could flog their test mules and drive these cars like they are meant to be driven. I would love to have a track like Road Atlanta to myself with this car, because we’ll probably never have the chance to push this car to it’s full potential on the street.
This should be the format. It should be an all day event with a welcome breakfast, introduction to the car, short driving clinic to prepare everyone for the track, and then turn us loose on the track. They should probably only let one car on the track at a time for safety reasons. Hell, they should even give prizes for the guys with the ten fastest laps! That would ensure everyone would be up against the 9000 RPM rev limiter. Then at the end of the day they can hook us up with some good eats and a party.
The reason Mazda should do this for us is that we have been here from the beginning, enthusiastically supporting and keeping up with the development of the RX-8. We’ve been their grass-roots sales force, getting the word out to everyone else. They should reward us with a day like this. I guess there wouldn’t be room for everyone, so they could keep it to the first 500 members of this forum. If they need to shave it down even further, they could come up with other criteria. I would advise against making post count the criteria though. OH MY GOD, can you imagine the post whoring that would go on then? We’d be reduced to useless, one sentence posts. AAAAHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

a ride and drive would be cool
Before the WRX was officially for sale, although it had been announced, SOA flew a bunch of people from the i-club, and even people with their own large-scale Subaru enthusiasts sites, down to Arizona where they got to beat the bag out of a bunch of WRX's on the track and such.
I think this would be great for Mazda to do, too (especially since I have a good chance at going, being that I'm a mod ), but I don't see them doing that...

I am going to try to get to Sevenstock also. I will be in the area for my wife's 10-yr HS reunion (it is on the same night as SS day one), but I have to convince her we can make Sevenstock in the a.m., and the reunion in the p.m.
I'm also really stoked because CART is racing in St. Pete next season. So, I am finally going to take my boys to see a champ car race in Feb. They're pretty excited, too.
