Limp mode causes???
Does anyone know if these codes will cause the car to go into limp mode and run extremely rich 10.9 AFR's??I know they are o2 sensor related, I just need to know if they would cause limp mode.
P0030
P0037
P0134
Thanks!

Story to this is....while trying to remove the primary o2 sensor i stripped it out. Went to auto zone and all they had was a universal one that you spice it. Did that and now i get the 3 codes and rich smoke out the exhaust my Aem wide band gauge stays at 10.9 at idle and all the way up to 3500 rpm rev limit. Im starting to think this car can't use the universal sensor so i just ordered the real one for 300 bucks and it will be here tomorrow....i don't have the secondary one plugged in because i am using that hung for my Aem wideband gauge. That's the p0037 code. Anybody agree that the universal one does not work in the primary position because it might not be a wideband??

Mainly just tryingto figure out why limp mode. People have said they drive fine with both sensors unplugged...so why am i in limp mode...5% throttle body open no matter how much i put the pedal down. 3500rpms max. 0-50 max speed is about 35 seconds.....horrible....

haha oh Urban....
Universal O2 sensors aren't recommended. Our 8 is very touchy. Where did you get the part for $300?? You should try Mazmart for a better price!!

That's the second one right? I put it in the first one. I don't think this universal one is a wideband which is what the front one needs to be... the real one is comming in today so i will swap it out and we'll see...fingers crossed.....

So new primary o2 sensor installed and still in limp mode. Got rid of the code except for the p0037 which is the secondary o2 sensor because of no cat. So still in limp mode. No cel to reference to but now i am burning lots of oil. The inside of the tail pipes are covered in burnt oil. Along with tons of smoke. Any ideas??

Limp mode
Wow ok I'm completely new to this and having same issue but learned some very good stuff that I hope solves my issue . I had no clue there were different types of Limp mode with that being said I am now looking back at mop because I know it has been monkeyed with and it does exactly as I read in this thread. I start it no problem runs good has high r's for a few seconds then goes right into limp mode however I can still drive it if I'm on a straight no hills it will make it slowly up to around fifty but gowing upthe smallest of hills back down to about 20 or down a hill up to even 80 ! I'm going to try to adjust mop switch if anyone has some advice it would be much appreciated thanks fave

Hi there,
The P0134 code will activate the limp mode as it will be making sure that a safe fuel mixture for the operator to get to safe destination. The sensor after the Catalytic converter is the usual culprit due to where it is fitted as it is easy to damage with road debris and diving style. I’ve killed mine twice, so have had the panic of have I killed the engine.
If you are running without 2nd sensor you might want to reset the fuel trims, so the car will re-learn fuel set-up. This might help with letting the ECU to think that sensor is not required. This sometimes works, but this car is difficult to figure out as they all seem to do their own thing.

I was thinking that there might be an issue with the omp with the excess oil at the exhaust tips, but I'm sure if the omp fails it switches to minimum values. Could the omp jam on full then cause the sensors to get confused? that should show a different code .

Usually the OMP issue is the setting of the position switch. it seems to get out of alignment... and then it doesn't like it and goes into limp mode.
Failures of the stepper motor tend to throw codes... for whatever reason there isn't one for the position switch.

Did you ever solve the problem

5k rev limp mode?
Hey,
I have a 2004 Mazda RX8 Manual 6spd, it has been stored for 5 years.
I replaced the s
park plugs, spark plug cables and coils with BHR coils. I also replaced the upstream and downstream 02 sensors.
When I fire the car up it will rev to 10k rpm for a second or two. Then the computer throws it into limp mode and it won't rev past 5k rpm.
If I shut the key off and wait a couple seconds and then fire it back up it will do the same thing. It will rev up to 10k rpm for a second or two and then it jumps back into limp mode and won't rev past 5k rpm.
The car doesn't have any starting issues, fires right up every time. It doesn't have any "hot start" issues.
I also have started the car and let it idol to reach operating temperature, and it still has the same issue.
When I check the error codes, my scanner says that there are no error codes; but the engine light is on.
Maybe a weak or dying fuel pump?
But wouldn't a dying fuel pump throw an error code?
I need help please 🥺
