SBG Interest Thread: RX8 Track-Day Big Brake Kit

We are posting this thread at the request of a few RX8 owners to see if there is interest in producing an RX8 version of our FD Track-Day Big Brake kit. Utilizing many of the same components from our AP Competition Big Brake Kit, our Wilwood based brake kit uses the same pads and rotor size, but at nearly HALF the cost. The rotors can be upgraded to AP Rotors at a later date as the hat is the same.

Regarding the RX8 specific kit, if we can get 20 people on board, we can produce this kit! Price for the brake kit will be the same as the FD at $1600, however first-time introductory pricing would bring the base kit down to $1275 + shipping!!! We dare you to find another track worthy BBK for a similar price . This kit will only happen with enough people on board (and PAID). As many of the components are shared with the FD brake kit, we could potentially turn this kit around in a few weeks after close.

And now for the details!

Building on the success of our AP Competition Brake System, we produced this brake kit, with the intention of bringing race-inspired engineering to the broader motorsports market. Utilizing many of the specifications of our AP kit, we have designed what is in essence, a light-competition brake system, employing high-end track & street components. The result is a system which provides incredible performance for cost, accessible to the broader driving enthusiast market, which can be easily upgraded to race-performance components if you choose.

Forged Superlight Calipers use the same 20mm Brake Pads that our AP kit uses. These not only add additional thermal barrier between the rotor and caliper, but will also last longer than a standard competition brake pad. Many other calipers use pads that are 12-17mm’s thick resulting in reduced thermal insulation (potentially more brake fluid boiling), and significantly increased pad replacement intervals. In essence you're getting more brake pad material for the same cost of a set of brake pads. Thanks to using a very common pad shape, replacing pads will also be significantly cheaper and easier to source.

Our SBG Premium Brake Rotors have been designed to provide the highest possible performance for cost. Our design utilizes race-inspired directional veins, which drastically increases air flow compared to a stock, straight vein rotor. Our proprietary slot design improves the responsiveness of braking, with better bite, and prevents excessive brake dust build up, keeping brake components clean and improving mechanical engagement. Optionally this kit is offered with an upgrade to AP Racing Floating Rotors for extreme track use.

This is the perfect package for customers looking for the maximum bang for their buck when it comes to brake performance.

Our Package Includes:

• Wilwood Forged Superlight Calipers
• 6061 Billet Caliper Mounting Brackets
• SBG 325x32mm Solid Mount Premium Brake Rotors or Optional 325x32 Floating AP Rotors
• SBG Designed 2024 T351 Aluminum Rotor Hats
• DOT Approved Stainless Steel Brake Lines with dirt/abrasion sleeves
• Full Pictorial Installation Guide

Massive 20mm thick (and cheap) racing pads do a great job of insulating the caliper from brake heat to prevent fluid boiling, and 32mm thick directional curved vane rotors add lots of rotor cooling! Our SBG custom valved Ohlins plus the front and rear brakes have drastically improved the handling of our shop RX8!

Has interest in this topped out? If so we'll need to table this project. We can only manufacture this setup if you guys actually are interested in buying it. Please keep signing up or this thing will be in prototype form on our shop car only We're driving on it daily and they're fantastic brakes! Tons of torque and infinite brake capacity, track or street. Good from the first lap out to the end of the day, and doesn't bat an eye on our hour long backroad sessions

Will the setup fit most 17 inch wheels? Will you offer a set for the rears as well?

rpf1's seem to be the hardest to fit in 17in with any brake kit. These passed the test.
if there is enough interest up front the rears will follow. One step at a time.

We try very hard to keep our brake kits as low profile as possible. Our FD wilwood kit fits under 17" RPF1's and the offsets here would be very similar.

In regard to a rear kit, an OEM+ kit with directional vane rotors for the rear could be ready in short order. However, like Yomom said, for now we're trying to generate interest in the Front BBK, if we can establish a support base for the RX8, then we could look at lots of other options!

We're ready to press the go button with our machine shop... we can't invest in a dead product though so we need people to actually sign up. I'm suprised a $1300 legitimate BBK isn't insanely popular here... 50 kits to FD guys and we're all sold out. 38 kits to S2000 guys and we're nearly sold out, on production run #2 for both those chassis.

Hello RX8 people, we need your help to mobilize to make this happen... please tell your friends. It's an additional $300 off standard pricing of $1600 so we're just giving away the first run of parts to get some of these out for review. FD guys have spoken, this BBK is fantastic. There are lots of threads over on RX7Club... let's get this moving !

If you guys are in at the standard retail price of $1595 we can boot this up with 4-5 people. If you guys want a cheaper volume discount / GB sort of thing at $1295 we'd need 15 people on board. Those are realistic numbers. Basically we need to cover minimum production run quantities one way or another. With the higher price we're literally just covering the extra cost to make additional brackets for more brake kits, and shelving them.

At $1295 for a proven BBK, accepts 20mm thick pads that are nearly the same cost as stock RX8 pads, with a 325x32 directional curved vane rotor set... I'm surprised this didn't happen a year and a half ago. We've sold probably 100 S2000 and FD sets (not combined, each chassis) in the time we've been trying to get 5 people to sign up and put money down. The RX8 simply is not a tuner platform (if you look at the average RX8 owner). It's sad because this platform is more capable than the FD, but few people seem to get it

Yes, they do look pretty good, and they stop even better than they look

We've put together and are selling an FD and S2000 Radi-cal kit now and are finishing up our NSX Radi-cal kit. 5+ people with $4000+ each for fronts get a Radi-cal Now how sweet do those Radi-Cals look ?
