[help]anyone in sf bay with shock sensor?

i was wondering if any of you guys in the sf bay area have the new/updated alarm shock sensor upgrade on your 8? my dealership/service said they dont install alarm/eletrical components. would any of you guys have experience in installin the component or know of a place that does? is 100 bucks reasonable to have this 50 buck thing installed...thats what some guy quoted me...?

My dealership installed it as part of my car purchase, I didn't pay anything for the install only the part. There are instructions in the Do it Yourself section. $100 seems high to me but I don't really know....

$100 is way too high. I'll do it for $20 ! Depending on how far I have to drive to you.

Where do you live ?

I do! I installed it myself too It's really simple and $100 isn't fair at all. I even lacked the tools when I installed it. I guess finding the right level of sensitivity in the sensor is the toughest part for me since I park in a closed apartment garage. A lot of things were taken into consideration when setting the sensor level.

Early on many people were having problems with them, they were replaced it with a different model from what I recall. People had to turn them down to the point of not being very useful. Are they any better now?

Perfect now (I never had the buggy one) once you set the sensitivity for your environment. Piece of cake for an experienced DIY type to install. Absolutely one of the best investments for the car @ ~$45 from www.trussvillemazda.com..

Be sure to read the DIY: Shock Sensor Install thread to make your life easier.

I bought one, it comes with the upgraded diode.

The install was pretty easy, the first two wires were easy to find. The brown wire that needs to be clipped, then tapped with the diode was a major pain to find. The diagram was not clear. The wire was really far up there, and I had a hell of a time trying to snap the clips on it because there was only enough space for me to use one hand....

2 hours later, I managed to clip into the brown wire. If there was more space this would take less than 2 mins to install.

I live in the bay area and I installed it myself. Took me about 30 minutes to install and I love it (besides the fact that it is a little bit too sensitive even in the lowest setting). $100 is totally unreasonable because it is so easy to install. Just follow the manual and the DIY guide and do it yourself.

I had the same experience as Jason. It's a really easy install, but because of the location of all the wires, it is not that easy. At once point I had almost wished that I have paid to have it installed, but after taking a rest, and having another beer I finished the job. I recommend doing it yourself.
