Wind.

For me, it was an 80 mph sand blasting while being stuck in a Sand out (like a snow out, but this was walls of sand) on the 15 freeway. My paint is trashed, the polished lips on all of my Volks are pitted and scratched from flying rocks and boulders (yes, boulders fly when given 80 mph of air behind them), and my windshield is pitted like an 40 year old pick up truck.

For Jedi, I beleive a wind gust slammed his hood back, causing damage to the hood, windsheild and fenders. Jedi, how much is the replacement cost on the windshield....that is probably the only thing I could afford right now.

Yup, the damn wind owned my poor little car. I made a post in the LAX thread with the description, I'll find it and repost it here.

I got the estimate last week and it's about $1,900 in damage to the car. What' funny is that at quick glance, you can't tell there's anything wrong but if you look close enough, you can see the damage to the fenders and that the hood isn't properly aligned anymore. Fortunately the windshield didn't crack. (dont' know HOW it survived)
Keith: lots of times windshields are covered by insurance without a deductible. Did you call your insurance comapany?

It's official....I post-***** way too much. It was such a pain to go back and find this post.

I had finished washing my car on Saturday morning, had it all dry, and looking SEXY as ever when I decide I should probably check the oil since I was planning on doing a lot of driving that day.

I pop the hood and as I reach for the hood lever, the ******' wind decides to GUST like NEVER before and my car didn't stand a chance!! The wind got under the hood, and pushed it up with all it's might. I felt the hood starting to slip from my hand but before I could get a better grip, it was too late... I sensed that something bad was about to happen and then BAM!!! I hear my hood slam up against my WINDSHIELD and the top of the car!!! I suddenly panic as I start to get images of my hood flying down the street (think Tommy Boy) and I race over to the side of my car to get a hold of it before it takes off. Thank gawd, the latches somewhat held and the hood didn't go airborne.

Seeing the top of my hood lying up against my windshield made me sick to my stomach. When I started to lower the hood, I heard a nice POP, because the hood had been thrown so violently that it bent out both my fenders (where they come up and meet the hood) and I'm forced to push them back into place just to get my hood down. The hood now closes and I spot 2 dents on the top of it, dents on the fenders, the paint is scratched on the side of the hood, slightly scratched on the fenders, and the hood is no longer aligned properly. When I look at my car from the side, it seems as though the hood is sitting up slightly higher then before (or maybe it's just me)

There you have it guys... Lesson learned I guess: Super light hood + a little wind + shitty hood latches = one messed up Jedi Mobile.

Nope, haven't called....I have GEICO and chose the 1000$ deductible as I needed to lower my premium as much as I could to make the car affordable (remember I was thinking of selling my 8 when the gas prices went up so high that first surge).

ouch! am sorry to hear about that guys. hope u can get everything fixed in due time w/o it costing too much...

actually, the high winds are my main concern about this coming week's meet- esp since it's such a long drive for us west-siders. the forecast today says there will probably be 22+ mph winds. (usually anything 20+ mph is bad news and i try to stay off the roads.)

i'll continue monitoring as the week progresses. worse case scenario is i'll drive my 323i out to the meet so my 8 doesn't get sandblasted... really want to see everyone and get the calendar still.

well, if u factor in 20+ mph winds plus the 65/70 mph u r already driving, then it does some damage.
