30K service
How much did you Cali peeps pay for your 30K service?
Dealer asking about $700 for 30K service and $170+ for front brakes. Does that sound right? Please help me confirm? I dont wanta get jipped. Thanks!

I dont even think the 15k or 30k service is worth it. They asked me if I wanted to get the 15k done and I said "isnt it just an oil change and an inspection of the car?" they said "yea, you also get the inspection with a regular oil change". It doesnt really seem worth it, at 30k you will need new spark plugs but I would just ask in the Cali lounge and see where people take their cars to be worked on.
I think in nevada they were asking $299 for 15k service and I forget for the 30k service, but the general consensus is dont get it done unless your having some type of problems. Heres a post off a mazda forum about the cx-7 30k service, not sure what applies to the rx-8 but it shouldnt be to different.
I think it just comes down to, do you trust that the dealer is doing every single one of those things? You have no proof they oiled hinges or even did a walk around underneath your car. They might just change oil and air filter and send you on your way. You will ALWAYS overpay at the dealer, if you want it cheaper find a good 3rd party mechanic you can trust.
Other people are saying read your owners manual(I dont have one or id check for ya) and see what it says to replace/change. It will be different than what Mazda tells you is needed, just get what the manual says.
THIS IS A LIST FOR THE MAZDA CX-7 SO SOME MAY NOT APPLY TO THE RX8, JUST GIVING YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY DO.
THINGS THEY DO:
- Change oil and oil filter
- Lubricate all locks and hinges
- Rotate tires
- Clean & adjust brakes
- Cooling system service (not sure what that means)
- Replace transaxle oil
- Replace transfer case fluid
- Replace manual transmission oil (Mine is automatic - irrelevant?)
- Replace rear differential oil
- Replace spark plugs (non-platinum) <--- what does THAT mean...?
- Replace air filter
- Emission service, clean throttle plate (no idea what that does)
- Wash car (big deal)
THINGS THEY CHECK:
- Inspect All lights
- Inspect Brake & Clutch fluid level
- Check tire inflation pressure and tire wear
- Inspect power steering fluid level
- Inspect washer fluid level
- Inspect coolant system
- Inspect coolant level (Isn't that dealt with in the Cooling System Service above...?)
- Inspect belts and hoses
- Inspect brake lines, hoses and connections
- Inspect steering operation & linkage
- Inspect front & rear suspension & ball joints
- Inspect driveshaft dust boots
- Inspect drive belt tension
- Inspect exhaust system

Yea and for what they charge they really should be changing every little thing like that. From what I have read you dont need to do 15k or 30k or any of those to keep your warranty active, so theres no point. Everyone that egst it done seems to say "wow, mazda sure took me for a ride on that one" after they get done.

You should change your own brakes and change your own oil also if things are that tight. Brakes have been easy on every car I have tried to change them on. The oil is super easy just takes time, I just changed mine with a 2ton craftsman jack(tiny little thing) and 2 jack stands I bought at autozone for $22.
