8s in Vegas~
I just moved to Vegas a month ago
and read here that quite a number of you in this city own Rx-8s.
I have a few questions to unload:
First of all, is it really safe to get an 8 in Vegas considering the above-average car-jacking rate here?
And where is a safe place to park your car? Let alone a safe area to rent an apartment near UNLV?
Cuz I've been hearing stories about how unsafe it is to live near the school or the strip (although most of the ppl I've come across seem nice).
My other question is, do you guys just goto any public car wash to wash your car? or any public gas station around the corner to fill? I feel weird filling my P5 with like a hundred other cars stopping and passing by.
Where is a good place to get a car wash anyway? My apartment doesn't even have an area to wash your car...
Anyways, my parents won't let me get an Rx-8 here (they live in Cali) cuz they think #1 it's not safe and #2 it's not safe...
Someone please help out a newcomer!

Vegas
I wish I could help ID a good place to live. In general, Vegas has nice areas right next to not so nice areas, it is really hit and miss. When I moved hear I lived on the NW side of town in an apt complex with mostly older couples, I felt very safe. Within a year and a half people moved out and the complex offered low $$$ or free move in specials, and the police were a constant presense soon after the arrival of the new residents, no longer felt safe though nothing ever happened to me or my car. I was even late for work a few times when squad cars blocked the exits in the morning. Since then I moved South. Best bet is to just scope it out and see, I'll would guess that there are nice and not so nice areas near UNLV if you can find the time to investigate. Good luck.

Welcome
The UNLV campus has some of the higest rates for car thefts, and has increased this year.
Any place "close" is not going to be the best area of town, but busses run all over the place.
Any new car is going to be a target here, just like in any other city.
If you are getting an apt, get a parking space right outside your bedroom window.

I have seen 2 so far on the streets
I have only seen 2 in the valley on the streets, a yellow and a titanium gray. I hear they are flying off the lots, but you would never know it by looking at the roads.
I almost had an 8, got all the way through to signing some of the paperwork when they showed me the financing docs the price on paper was more than $5500 higher than the I heard during negotiations, (see my experience post). I haven't had the time to go out of town to look, maybe in a few months. Nice car, problem dealership.

When i was buying my 8 they didn't have costco prices for them yet. Dunno about now, i ended up buying it from a dealer in cali and not from any of the dealers in vegas just because they still thought they could get 2500 above msrp.
I live in the summerlin area and its a very nice part of town so very few if any cars are stolen where i live.
