FYI, Anyone still on the waiting list in C group, there is hope. Bern got me in today. I need to buy a helmet, so I'll be shopping tomorrow. I'm a little apprehensive because I'm a newbie, but the C group looks like a great place to learn how to drive better.
Anyone have suggestions which stores to check in the Los Angeles area for helmets?

$130 is a good price.
HELP!
Regarding helmets -- I'm considering the open face Bell or Pyrotect, SA2000 rated helmet for next Saturday's All Track Day. They are less expensive than the full-faced helmets and also look more comfortable. The All Track Day may be the only time I ever race on a track, or if I do try something similar again, it will be with my stock 8. The full-faced hemets seem like overkill for my intended purpose -- although it occured to me that I could see myself in an insane ride-a-long.
If I ever get the bug and get into real racing, I would upgrade the helmet later. I plan to show up next week with jeans, rubber-soled shoes, but was considering buying some good racing gloves because the stock 8 steering wheel seems slippery at times. Sure I'll look like a newb, but I never try to be what I'm not.![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Am I being penny-wise and pound foolish?

I think some events require full face helmets. It's good to get one if you ever want to go Karting too. Although, I know allot of the folks doing autocross like the open face. I ended up getting the Bell K-1 Sport closed face. It cost me $315. no tax or shipping.

yes.. I got the SR pro because I also do some Karting .. but if not for that I would have gotten the Mag 4 Open face. The SR pro is a great cross between both you can were goggles if you need to for open cockpit driving .
as for the other stuff.. you only need a rated helmet. no gloves or special clothes, or shoes.
just wear Jeans and some good shoes you can drive in.
And your in a group of newbies.. I have done some Karting events and One day at Skip Barber driving school At the California Speedway driving Winston Stock Cars for 25 laps at 160+ mph. So don't think you alone. most of us are newbies

All So-Cal folks are welcome to join us for the trek up.

any nor-cal folks want to do a caravan as well? I am thinking of leaving at like noonish or early afternoon from San Mateo. It takes about 1 1/2 hours drive from my place

For everyone attending this event I highly recommend trying to memorize the track map. It details each turn, proper lines and even has recommend gears. Follow the appropriate link from http://www.pca-ggr.org/ttvenues.html to download the file.
You can also see in-car track video to get a feel for the track.
Bern, the PDF is 1.3 megs in size. It may be worthwhile to email to all confirmed attendees.
