it's not loud for daily driving, pretty mellow... but if you go WOT it's very loud.

Bench racing my boy... just bench racing!!!

CART or F1... a few weeks back at the laguna historic races, Ferrari brought one of last year's, Michael Shumacher, F1 cars to break the track record, and they fell short by 1.5 seconds or so... what happened, car or driver??? hmmm??? CART still holds the record (1996 / 1:07.722 / 118.969 / Helio Castroneves) :D :D

Thanks to all who came out to the event... to all those that sent me input, it's appreciated!

That record is amazing to me...especially that it stands from nearly a decade ago. I seem to recall that CART also holds the record at Willow Springs too and that the record there is something like 20 years old and average speed of something like 136 (Andretti I think).

Thanks for the good words Bern on my driving but I consider myself okay...the real driver's driver of the day was our head instructor Rick Weldon...he has a few marks of his own at that track. Back in 96 he was the highest placing non-factory backed finisher at Laguna in a IMSA GTU race I can't remember his lap times other than that the range was another 10 seconds down from the range we are talking about...in an 82 Rx7. If folks have the opportunity to ride with Rick at another event they should really take advantage of the opportunity...that man can drive anything and watching his technique is a rare pleasure.

Thanks again to all for a great day. :D

I was flagged 2x late in the day for sound so had to short shift or lift for 5 seconds each time I went by the sound booth on my last runs. Am looking now for anyone who can make a top heatshield for the intake. PM me if you know anyone who can do it for me.

Brian and Pur NRG were both probably DSC off 100% of the time. I had it off my last 3 runs. My last run w/o DSC I came in too hot into the corkscrew and went off plowing (no spin) into the dirt.

My RX8 does not have DSC. I wanted a base 6spd to get the big brakes and better motor but skip the sunroof so I can fit in the car with helmet on....so I have a blank where most have that DSC button.

I bet you could make a simple sound shield around that intake that would allow all the flow but get the db down to a max of 89...

I ran with DSC off. Never really got into a situation where the tires were squealing. Had a couple moments where I was trail braking too much and the rear was about to kick loose but it was pretty easy to lift slightly and keep it under control.

Matt,

Nice movies. Also thanks for posting the pic with me butting in. I still plan to contact gotbluemilk to purchase a CD. I forgot my camera and still don't believe I was there.

Nice to meet you and your wife. Glad she got to ride along to get a taste of what it's all about. I know my girlfriend really enjoyed going out on the track and would have done more but didn't realize ride-a-longs were permitted until after lunch. It got really warm so I ran a few laps with the AC blowing in her face!

Hope to see you at future events.

Jesse

Thanks!

Guys:
I wanted to give a huge thanks to all the FORUM participants that came out last weekend. Hope you all enjoyed!

I also wanted to thank our title-sponsor CORKSPORT, for letting us all enjoy this day at a reasonable cost!!

Hopefully, we'll do it again soon.

Is there an equivalent to the NoCal club that helped out at LS, in So Cal? I liked the way LS was run with the emphasis on safety and instruction.

Actually starbucks, the people who put together the Laguna Seca event (Corksport, Bern, and Trackmasters) are from socal. It's just the Mazda raceway is in norcal.

Here is the scoop....

Bern & Dan (RotaryNews.Com) = So-Cal & Vegas

Miata Club of America / Trackmasters = Nor-Cal

CorkSport = Oregon

The majority of the organization did come out of So-Cal though, as did a lot of the participants...

Thanks guys!

Ooops! My bad. Sorry guys.

Who can I contact about events similar to the AMD at SoCal tracks, such as Willow Springs near Rosamond? I realize the AMD day was special, but how about events in mixed company that are run the same way, with the same type of participants?

Hey Matt,

If you're reading this, how about some more mpgs? The guys at work really liked them. I didn't even try to pass them off as me, but it gave everyone a sense of what it was like out there. A couple of guys seemed pretty interested after I told them about it; they seemed especially reassured by the required wave-by passing.

SB,
The So-Cal RX Club has done events with both NASA and The TOURING CAR CLUB. Both groups run very good track days and offer excellent instruction. There are a few other good track organizations, but we do not have direct experience with them.
