What I'm looking for is Red AT with only the GT package black/red interior, and just the rear wing spoiler. [/B][/QUOTE]

You might be able to pull that off for about 28200-29200 range. Pre Taxes and all that hoopla. I got mine with strakes, GT, Silver AT, for 29k. Prolly more than I should have paid, but I wanted it at that very moment :P

I got an AT for three reasons,

1) I drive from OC to LA and back.. 1 hour each way in traffic, 6 days a week.. I often get lazy, chat on the phone etc... I couldn't stand driving stick anymore.

2) Auto starter. Set it up with my remote, works great with ATs.

3) Tiptronics! For the hell of it.

If I really wanted a super speedy race car, I wouldn't have dropped 30k on an RX-8. I would have bought other cars that just went fast.. but looked like trash. I prefer people looking at my car than speeding by them. All show, and no go. Luckily RX-8 has some go power.

Outlaws:

My price b4 taxes and licensing and the whole shaabang
is $30,0227 for all the options I stated above. The final came out to 34,055.23.... I guess I shouldn't even ask if that price is way too high....

For sure you can get it below that 30k price at Galpin Mazda. But ask for Philip. If you need help on that, let me know. I've talked to him extensively about the pricing. I got basically the same thing.. minus the crappy 6 disc changer. The spoiler is like +250 or so on the price.. so it's going to be in the 29k or so range at the moment. Maybe lower. ATs are still lower in stock, and higher in demand currently now since they've offered it as a AT package.

In So Cal, that combo has an invoice price of about $28100. If you find one on a dealers lot (i.e. instead of ordering one to be built) you should not pay more than 28600 for it (plus tax, license, docs, etc.)

I will call Galpin as soon as I get off work and ask for Philip; BTW is he in Internet fleet sales, or just a reg. salesman? I would appreciate you're help on this immensly.

When U say 29k you mean with taxes and the whole extra s*** right?

Philip is the Internet Sales Fleet guy, let me know if you need help.. I should be stopping by there myself for 3k oil change.

29k is pre tax and other stuff. It's going to be around that range.. depending on the current market for the car and how many are in stock in the area. If it's the ONLY red one AT, and everyone is requesting it, you're going to be paying higher, if it's in large quantities, then you can be paying invoice. etc...

They have the typical warranty thing with the oil changes... 48 months/50k miles thing. Every 5k miles oil change, maintence..etc.

I haven't made my appt. for the oil change...yet. PM (private message) me your e-mail or AIM and I'll try to help out as much as possible.

Mike, I believe I just caused you to write your longest post ever.

Also, the fact that you don't have a science background is no excuse for your last statement. Exactly because we are "everyday consumers" and "have no proof" of anything is why everyone of us should try to get a recently built car.

Mike, please do not devise your own Las Vegas gambling system.

you seem to have avoided all my questions
and you still have nothing to support youre idea that november or december build dates are better.

I don't see why you are all making the car buying process out to be such an ordeal. I live in Sherman Oaks. I went to Galpin to test drive the car knowing full well that they didn't have what I wanted in stock. I looked on-line before buying and saw that Browning had two of what I was looking for. When I took my test drive at Galpin I told the sales manager what I wanted and that I would write them a check on the spot for it if they had it. I also told them that Browning had what I wanted in stock and if they wanted to do a dealer trade I would be more than happy to buy it here at Galpin. The sales manager said "well, I guess we can call them and see what we can do on Monday"... It was Friday when I was there. They were not really interested in doing anything very quickly.

So... I got on my cell phone while leaving Galpin and called Browning and asked for the sales manager. Chuck checked the stock and found the two cars I had looked up on the computer. We agreed to a price of $600 above invoice on the phone and I drove there that evening and purchased the car. It was very simple. The build date on my car is 11/28/03 and it was purchased on 11/26/03. Galpin did call me on Saturday just to say they were still searching for a car. I told them, you snooze you loose.

I'm curious - How did you purchase it before it was built if it was on the dealer's lot?

DrComputer,

EXACTLY what happened to me as well. Had been waiting (and waiting...and...) on Claremont Mazda to "find" what I wanted or make a dealer trade and finally went to the dealer 2 miles away here in Oxnard (Todey Mazda) and got exactly what I wanted at the same price Claremont had offered but for which had been unable/incapable of making a car appear. Too bad for them. If you want business, you'll find a way to get it; otherwise I'll give my money to someone else. :P
