i think you need to cut out the middle part to do that unless you make it come out the side, in which case you probably better off just getting the HKS

I always thought 2 exhaust exits would be better than 1..

since the hks is 3" its more flow than stock, but any 3" would be better flowing. a dual exhaust with 3" should be better flow than a single with 3" since there are 2 exits.. right??

Ok were to start, lets say you have a v8 that means you have two headers and then in that case you would be able to use a true dual exhaust running a single pipe of each header that would = more flow. We have one header therefor in order for us to get better flow we would need to find the shortest less restrictive route to get the spent gases from motor to the ground. Now by nature a muffler's job is to restrict the flow in order to meet sound restrictions. In order to do this they use a series of baffles that are welded inside the muffler that channel the gas throw the muffler like a maze causing a whole lot of restriction. Therefor two mufflers on one pipe would equal twice the restriction. Duals on a RX are dual mufflers not a true dual exhaust purely for show not go

ok. that makes sense. BUT i keep thinking that since there would be 2 mufflers, the restrictions are less due to the exhaust gas being split into to mufflers thus half restriction..

ur thing makes sense though. i really wanted to switch to the dual racingbeat. i thought itd be more gains than my hks.

Mexican muffler shops FTW!!

Removal is pretty straight forward, removing the rubber hangers can be a bitch but just get a spray bottle and fill it with some water and dish washing liquid. This works as a lubricant and dries up after without a mess.

The front bolts for the cat can be seized and might need to be cut off so if you don't do mechanic work it could turn into a nightmare.

Also many aftermarket midpipes and exhaust vary in how they attach so sometimes a trip to the hardware store is needed for washers and bolts of the right size.

i am also intrested in the jic set up. i am thinking about taking out the shrouds and swapping in a single apexi "colored" n1 out the back simmialr to the jic setup. why you ask? bc nobody else in the states has done it for a street driven 8, and if they have, i have yet to see any.

if you were to do a custom exhaust, i'd recommend putting the muffler on the right side of the car

I just put a single can muffler on my car today, looked very nice sounds awesome with my high flow cat no resonator. I didn't go for 3" piping, I just reused the original piping cut and reweld a single can muffler with a 4" SS tip. To be honest with an NA setup 3" vs 2.5" piping i think you'll actually lose more torque but gain HP at higher rpms, just a speculation. I think my only problem is that it melted my exhaust shroud . either the tip was just too close to the plastic or the combined heat from the once 2 tipped system was just too hot. we'll see with more driving, I definitely like the sound of a single can vs a dual can from magnaflow, the single can was definitely bigger than the 2 smaller ones and it sounds very deep. lol the picture on the box shows a trunk, i think we put a brodowser muffler on

im not quite so sure you have to cut anything. iv crawled up under and peeked around many times. looks like its just all pins and a few bolts. if you look at the jic it looks mighty clean n smooth to be cut, even if it was trimmed up to look nice. however, we wont truley know untill somebody undergoes the process.
