Hey crazy thought if cats are so expensive why not slap in a bolt on mid pipe to get rid of it and keep it them every smog put it on for a month for smog tests then afte just take it back off.
Pros cons. It will last longer and not go out if decarbing but is louder and leaves a check engine light on in told...
Yes Indeed. We need to have a Gathering in the Concord area, Dublin would be cool too.

hey guys, I read I should clean my MAF/IAT. I did with contact cleaner and now my 8 runs better while rolling, but when I come to a stop it has a bit of a rough idle at first and stays steady at about 850-900 RPM. My question is does the initial rough idle go away after a while or is there another step I gotta do?

I used an actual can of MAF/IAT cleaner when I had my 8. I didnt go thru what you just described.. if you wanna try some of the stuff I have, maybe that will work better?

run it through a few drive cycles so the ECU can relearn its trims.

Hey I will be leaving my 8 parked for about 1.5 months...other than disconnecting the battery cables, is there anything else that I could do? I might be able to get someone to start the car and run the engine once in a while....any suggestions???

1.5 months shouldnt need a start up. I would pull the spark plugs and put some marvel mystery oil in each housing and manually turn the engine over a few times (do not start) and put the spark plugs back in -- this should probably be the last thing you do

You might want to lift the car up on stands and take the wheels off if you can, if its in a garage so the tires dont get flat spots.

Coolant should be fine

Put some fuel dryer in the tank

Might as well change the oil before you leave

Car cover is highly recommended if its outside

Other than that you should be fine, I'm lazy and probably wouldnt do any of this, but I have read a few threads on what ppl do when they leave their car for an extended period

HAVE FUN! sounds like an awesome vacation

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, computer just needed to be reset. Car runs so much better now, the simpliest procedure makes a world of difference.

Thanks tournapart, those all sound like good suggestions.instead of pulling the plugs, do you think it would be better to just have someone turn the car on and let the engine warm up, like once a week? Thanks for the help

if the car is in a garage, just slap a trickle charger to it if you think your battery is suspect

if it's outside and you have friends who can do it for you, have them take it out for half an hour on week three to get the fluids flowing and the engine up to temp.

if you read some of the NW forums you'll see guys who store their 8's for the entire winter doing even less than that.

Got a project on my 8 for today. After surfing a few DIY's, I found one for painting the OEM rims. Gonna paint 'em black. Anybody got a few tips? I will post pics when completed.

Sitting at a red light, I see this 8 roll up behind me, a nice photo op to share with you all. Funny thing, it was some kid waving at me with his grandma next to him while I was snapping pics.Name: IMAG0168.jpg

That's funny his grandma.
She probably told him to wave for her once you had your camera out.
Grandmas gone wild I can see it now.

New to the area

So I just moved to South San Francisco and recently bought my first RX8. I would love to make friends in the area with some similar interests.

John ditched the group again. I would take some initiative, but I am not home as much as I used to be...maybe when this temp assignment business is over...

I do agree with an east bay meet, it never happens...
