The Ohlins has the lowest spring rate that I know of among RX-8 coilovers; 450 front and 280 rear. In my opinion, it's a dual use setup; dedicated racetrack setups will have a bit stiffer springs, but then those rates are still 2.5 times that of stock. I'm planning to pair them with the stock sways and I think it will work out great for my application.

Spring rates don't really make up for the stiffness of the ride. Spring rates provide the throw of the spring. The shocks really make up the "stiffness" of the ride.

In and Out parking lot is packed 90% of the time. I'm thinking probably just park in the usual spot and then caravan over there.... on foot.

One of the nice things about coilovers like Motons is the fact they take standard 2.5" ID springs. Makes it very easy to swap springs for different lengths or spring rates.

I have 700lbs front, 400lbs rear springs on my car now, and plan to try 600lbs front, 325lbs rear shortly.

I'll get to IN & OUT first and see if there are spots for us. I don't think any movies are opening for the parking lot to be that busy.

I want to get a 2 x 4 extra toast, extra green w/ animal style fries.

Tom should get "The CSI" or "twin towers before" or "twin towers after" or the "Jenna Jamison"

Dick can get "On the Sal"

It's not fake dude, you just have to go to the right in and out! The ones you mentioned are the ones that every in and out know and made them offical.

A 4x4 is not a problem to eat. You'll finish it and not even notice it! Ask me how I know...

Robin; that is correct, coilovers that use standard 2.5" ID springs are great. However, I think the Ohlins are a standard size as well, it's just that for what I need I can't imagine going to a higher rate.

David, spring rates have very much to do with the harshness of your ride over bumps. When you say damping, you're thinking of how a car settles after a bump. That is true that dampers have full control of how a car feels after the initial bump, but springs control how the car responds initially to the actual bump. A higher spring rate will not contract as much to the much meaning it'll necessarily feel harsher over initial bump. It'll also want to return to static quicker and will overshoot static with more force, which is why you need more damping for a stiffer spring. Add in high frequency oscillations (sharp quick bump) versus low frequency oscillations (long undulating surfaces) and it's easy to see why damping is still more black art than science.

Just as a final word, think about it this way: If road surfaces were perfectly smooth we would all be riding kart suspensions, tires only in other words. Since they're not, we introduce springs to help absorb the bumpiness and then we introduce dampers to control the springs' movement. It's why I'm not a big fan of using a huge anti-roll bar. Sway bars on passenger cars are just a torsion spring without damping control, too big of a bar will result in more unpredictable behavior as the sways contribute different amounts of stiffness to the car's suspension under different conditions. F1 teams go around this by having a three damper system. Their anti-roll bars are damped as well as their springs. Of course, a lot of F3 teams actually only use a single damper per axle. In other words both springs as well as the sway is controlled by just one damper, but I digress...

I installed the rear strut bars this weekend and I noticed that it's easier for the rear to let loose. I double checked everything again and seems fine.
