Browning Mazda checking Engine, Trying to find reasons to void warranty?

Jack, the new service guy checked under the hood for some odd reason... even though he's not a mechanic. Said it was part of the 30k mile service. I'm like uhhh ok... so I popped the hood knowing it's fully stock.

Then he said how a bunch of people have been modifying their cars, and he's been noting it in the computer... I assume he meant that he's writing these people up in the computer so that if something does go wrong, they can blame a silly Intake and such.

So watch out when you bring it to your dealerships... they are noting these things.

I drop by this morning for an oil change.. he did that too and asking me to following him around the car and pointing out the light was working and check the tire etc.. WTF? That was suppose to be the mechanic job for circle inspection! Anyway, story short, I end up decline the service since they don't give me a free rental anymore saying it's not part of the free maintenace (which may be true) for an oil change. But, since I'm not comfortable with his attitude so decided bettter take my car elsewhere or another time rather than wasting $25 for the rental out of my pocket.

He also show me a print out of my car maintenance history and the recall work was open, but he said I need a letter from mazda before any work can be done saying you shouldn't believe story on the web? hmmm there is something fishy going on with this new service writer at Browning. If they can't perform the recall, why don't they just say parts required to perform the recall are not available at the moment...

It's true they're been recording modifications to the car since day one... But this new service guy shouldn't be the one looking into it. He should leave that job to the mechanic. Good thing my car is stock at least.

New guy is named Michael Jack Prewitt I believe... and there is a younger guy there too. I believe it was Jack that has been checking RX-8 under the hood and looking for modifications.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they got Trigger on his warranty/Transmission deal.

Walk around is fine... that's procedural. But looking under the hood was a new thing for me... he wanted to see if I changed the intake or added something else. Modified anything... kept poking at the ECU, oil, etc...

Walk around by himself, sure. if he found something wrong, he would point out and have you acknowledge, sure. But required you to walk with him for no reason? that's not how you treat your customer; customer should be allow to sit in a chair doing nothing :D

The worst part that tick me off that day was that this Jack guy drop the hood like he do not care about the car to make it latched. The sound of the impact almost cause me a heart attack! I never seen any mechanic or service guy would do that to a customer car after they pop the hood; they always gently lower the hood to make it latch. Especially the RX8 hood is make of aluminum, I would imagine if done too often, I wouldn't be surprise If I find the hood deformed in some way.

Since I'm at the 42k mark, I'm care less about warranty services, just because I wanted the free oil change and the recall works done. So if I ever bring in my car to there again for the recall work, I would most likely wait until I hit 50K then modded up my engine to see what this guy would do. Void my warranty then deny my recall? I would love to see that. Just hope I don't break anything before I hit 50K first :D

yea i know the feeling **** the mazda dealerships, when u take it in any modifications at all theyll blame that for the reason, i should know took my car in about a month ago, turns out my battery was really weakened, so my pcm n ecu were goin heywire, n they tried to say my revi cold air intake was the problem, i was like no ive had 4k miles on it since i put on it, then they tried to say that my tornado was the problem, but all that did was give it better combustion, so **** the dealers, i think they give out these recalls to see how many of us have mods on there cars lol

the suspension prolly not... and the exhaust should be ok. The Intake was one of the things they mentioned to me... Made a note that I didn't have any aftermarket intake.

Also I heard that "Ahem" some people that went to Browning had near bald tires going in, with fixed up accessories... thus giving the impression that the person pushed the car too much. So I would re-evaluate if your tires are bald with few miles on your car.

they cant by law,you are entitled to modify the car and keep your warranty. as long as your modification is behind the catalytic converter than there is no problem at all. suspension should be totally fine. the intake may be a gray area, i would swap it for stock if i were you

Exactly... he's just the warranty manager. He sells the warranties... he doesn't void or help out on the warranties. That's not his responsibilities. If the service people sees it, they'll take a note of it. Wish he could help on this, but it's out of his hands.

Even if you warranty is voided from DAY 1, they are still required to perform all recall work.
