Duel @ De-Anza AutoX

Sunday May16th at De Anza Community College will hold it's annual autocross event where people can bring their own cars. I'm already registered and entered to run and I was wondering if anybody else was going too.

I was there in my green/blue fd. My gf and I ran pretty early on. I had a slow first lap and a 23.xx second lap for 55.6 second combined. How'd you do?

I was the 6th car to run that morning since my brother and I woke up at the asscrack of dawn to beat the line. After I ran, we went home to swap cars to his NSX cuz we were going to a NSX meet at 11AM.

As this was my first AutoX I've learned several things:

1) DSC sucks for tracking
2) being one of the cars to mop up the oil spots at the De Anza parking lot was retarded, they should have actually cleaned the pavement
3) There's a noticeable difference between cold pavement early in the morning with overcast and drizzle VS. warm pavement in the afternoon with the sun out
4) I need to soften my shocks when tracking with sharp turns
5) oh yea in case I forgot to mention, the Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control RAAAAAAAAAAPED my entire run in ways that must be experienced and suffered through. Just imagine trying to run a track while your brakes are applied when you DON'T want them, and your throttle is cut when you DO. DAMNIT!!!!!

all in all, the day was awesome. The cars were sick, the racing was sicker, and the commentator was F'KING HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope to see more RX-8's out there next time to represent (cough JON!!!)

I'm pretty sure I saw you run, didn't your girlfriend run your car right before you? If so, then I also saw you trying to hide behind a tree and then scare your GF when I was on my way to the restroom. LOL (if that was you)

btw, did you hear or did she tell you what the commentator was saying during your run? something about people having others run their cars to warm up their tires and get their car ready haha. he said that for the subarus, the Evo and the other cars.

Nice time though, mine was like 59 seconds cuz of my F#%*ing DSC and TC.

haha yeah that was me! Good eyes!

I did not hear what the commentator had to say, I drive with my windows up now so I can focus instead of listening to him. But the idea was to have her go first, since she would go slow and not need all of the grip. And driving with warm tires there is like night and day! The gravel and oil is pretty bad there, last year it felt like anytime I got on the gas that was driving in an oil slick.

59 is not too bad, I had a 58.xx last year... overcooked the first turn after the straight every time with some nice 4 wheel slides that really ruin your times... I had it in my head to try and top out second gear... bad idea

I made the mistake of putting my suspension to full stiff on the GTO and the front was pushing so much understeer at low speeds.

It didn't help to be in the front of the line with the cold tires and parking lot full of fresh oil spots.

I pulled a 57~ secs.

Other GTO observers said that if I properly set up my suspension adjustments then I would have easily shaved off 3-4 secs.

last weekend I did just that and went to the Great America Auto X and my times was right there with late model M3s.
