good san diego dealerships for service...?

hey all -

i'm moving out there next month and would appreciate recommendations for good dealerships to take the 8 to for service. by "good" i mean efficient, courteous and preferably mod friendly.

a cursory search on mazda's site revealed that nearly every dealership is "full circle" certified by mazda. i'm looking for some more personal, subjective opinions from the good folks on this forum.

thanks in advance.

- mike

sorry for the delay...

For dealership service, I'm giving the nod to Cush Mazda:
CUSH MAZDA
1560 AUTO PARKWAY NORTH
ESCONDIDO , CALIFORNIA 92029
Phone: 7607373205

It's worth the drive in my opinion. In what part of town are you going to settle?

I've never been impressed with John Hine service -- buy cars there, but service elsewhere.

Someone (or two, or...) posted they had good experience with Wescott Mazda in National City, but that may have been from a Miata forum.

I'm in San Diego and have not had mine serviced yet. I'll tell you one thing, Cush Mazda is the last place in San Diego I will take my RX-8. I purchased my RX-8 there and it was the worst car buying experience ever! Considering I paid MSRP and ordered 10 months in advance, in the end they added options I didn't order and was then treated with the worst service imaginable. It was so bad I'm now willing to drive twice as far to get my servicing. For what it's worth I had great servicing at Wescott Mazda back when I had my RX-7.

Hi rsimone -- sorry to hear about your poor sales experience. I still think sales and service are completely separate, and Cush gets consistently high marks from those who have had their mazdas serviced there, in my experience (San Diego Miata Club).

I haven't tried Wescott myself, but since I live by Balboa Park it may be worth a try...

I'll just chime in here also, I'm not in San Diego/Carlsbad yet. But, I too am possibly moving out that way also. Waiting on a final job offer....

I've had my '90 rx7 serviced at the John Hine a couple of times, and the 8 just went in last week for the first oil change and the oilpan replacement.

I've never had any bad experiences with them so far, and they were very helpful in checking with Mazda on the oilpan replacement and had no issues ordering one when they heard from Mazda that there were some reports and a replacement part.

Simon.

I realize that sales and service tend to be separate at dealerships but my problems with Cush indicated to me that the employees were not working as a team. I had sales reps blaming each other, their bosses, and even Mazda while little to no attempt was made to resolve the problem. This told me that Mr. Cush did not have a business where his employees cared much about the business let alone my interests as a customer. I didn't see that as just a sales department problem.

Thanks for the info on John Hine. Anyone else out there have any feedback on John Hine or Wescott Mazda?

just a little ressurrection post:

i'm now in SD. staying at a friends place until mine is ready on dec. 5th.

anyway, of the dealerships u guys mentioned (or haven't mentioned yet) are any of them "mod friendly"? meaning, will they install non-mazdaspeed aftermarket stuff if i ask them too?...will they be happy to do so?

thanks in advance!

I can't speak to the mod friendly issue, but don't use El Cajon Mazda, it'd be a drive out of your way from where you said you're staying anyway. They suck all around. I used Hine in Mission Valley and they were outstanding, courteous and fast. I've owned several makes of car and I feel safe in saying they are one of the best dealerships I've dealt with so far. Wish I'd have bought from them. Next time.....

Oh yeah, Welcome to sunny San Diego!
