Got my call from John Hine Mazda!

I just got called from Ted at John Hine, he told me that my 8 was the ONLY ONE to arrive on their truck this morning. He had to work to prevent Mr. John Hine himself from test driving the car, reminding him that this was pre-ordered and promised with fewer than six miles on it (already has ~4.5). So I'm expecting to pick it up this afternoon after PDI.

I'll try to update this evening. If I can be torn away.

Sweet! Looks like you're the first 8 in SD, congrats. :D It can't be too long before mine shows up. Did you ever get the email about your car being released from port?

No, strangely, I still never got it.

But then again, my VIN e-mail was delayed by about 2 weeks. I'll probably get my e-mail after I've broken in the 8.

I promise not to remember any personal information (ie. Salary, SSN, etc.) if I can come down and hang out with you when you pick it up!! Hahaha. :D Congrats man! Hopefully the rest of ours aren't too far behind!

Well, I think I was the 2nd person to order one (at least that's what they told me). I don't think that has anything to do with the order in which they arrive though... and according to DisneyDestroyer, John Hine only got one car in today.

My sales rep is Barb. She's not working today but I'm calling her at home to coordinate pickup of my car today. That's the problem with commission sales; you can only deal with one person and you're a slave to their schedule.

Barb is great! I happened to be there when a Mazda rep was there doing a dealer training session yesterday and got to sit in. I saw your car arrive on the truck as it pulled in about half way through the training...

Thanks for the info. I knew my car was there and I new they were doing staff training, so I was afraid they were doing staff training in my car. Glad to hear they're not. And yeah, Barb is great to work with. My rant about commissioned sales was not directed at her, just a general observation.

Dude, I'm totally ready for a Julian rally.

I keep looking for people on the freeways / streets, but so far no other live 8s. I guess I'll see a few on Saturday if nothing else.

Well, I'll be heading south on 15 in about 3 hours; as quick as it takes me to do the paperwork and get out of the dealership. First thing I'm gonna do is look for some twisties in the hills around Escondido (yes, I know I have to keep the RPMs down for awhile.) I'll have my 14-yr-old son and his friend with me; both are totally into this car so it'll be a fun ride.

Hey guys...got mine from Irvine Mazda on Tuesday. Almost at 200miles so far. I'm in SD, Mira Mesa.

We should have a meet! I know that Jeff at AutoTech MotorSports would probably let us host something there on a Saturday. Who's up for that?

Mostron, I have to confess ignorance. I am new to the world of car buffs. What does one do at a meet? Is it different than the group ride we're talking about to Julian? If there is a track where we can open up, and esp if we can get pointers on driving techniques I would totally love that. I feel like a "hunt and peck" typist. I can get it done, but I know I'm not efficient. Let us know what you have in mind. Thanks!
