i dropped off the 8 at galpin today to get lojack and a fender strake redone cause it was crooked...hopped into my big gimpin ford focus loaner and headed home... got overtaken easily by a titanium rx-8 from galpin around the 118/210 interchange. then it made me think, a week ago when i talked to my sales guy i asked how many they sold, he mentioned like 23 or so. i don't think we have more than 3? or so forum members who bought their cars at galpin.

sometimes i feel like our opinions on this board are representative of all owners and now i realize we make up about 15% :P anyhow, just thought i'd share.

btw, anyone take their car to redline yet? to me it feels hard to drive past 7000 rpm, the shifter practically buzzes and steering becomes really, really sensitive...that or maybe i just suck.

 

That's been the case with previous cars and websites. The UK folks also realized that when they counted less than 100 UK people running around the forum, with many more pre-orders claimed in the UK.

Remeber there are always twice as many guests lurking in the theads who have never registered. I lurked for 6 months before I felt I had something of value to say. Some noobie had asked a question that I knew the answer to. Since nobody had responded to his post, I finally registered.

Back then we were lucky to have 20 posts in a day. Now there are probably more than 100 posts per hour. (Assuming the server can handle it.)

 

Ah yes, the good old days.

 

The few times that I've been to Galpin, there seems to be several owners milling around and I always had the urge to ask, "Are you on the forum?"

Anyway, anyone up for a Los Angeles (or even a Galpin) meet in the near future?

I'd say the 15% is about right. When we did our rally in San Diego (which Puppy1 was good enough to come down for all the way from Galpin!) we knew of 6 forum members from San Diego county but figgered maybe 25-30 RX-8s had been sold from our 4 dealerships. That's maybe 20% participation. Even at this ratio, I think it's still safe to say our opinions are representative of all owners. We're a good cross-section from died-in-the-wool rotorheads to rotor noobies who just like the car. We've got everyone from kiddies to old farts on the forum, so it seems to be a pretty good mix.
