Heat Shield for the Center Tunnel

Has anyone installed the new heat shield for the center tunnel yet?

My 8 is one of the early ones and gets really warm after only 20 minutes of driving. As an example I store keys where the cup holders are and when I get home the key is almost too hot to handle.

I read that there is an advisory (not a recall) notice on this but Mazda HQ has not answered me back yet.

Check out this link for all recalls and TSBs:

But I don't see the TSB you're talking about. You might want to run a search of the forums.

Not a TSB, but an MRI, whatever that is.

It is just a pad that wraps around the cupholders. I had it done a few months back and it does help to keep temps cooler than before.

Does it just keep the cup holder area cool? I was hoping it helped keep that whole trans tunnel area cool (or at least a good part of it). You know, where it sort of cooks after a certain amount of driving.

The MRI's are kind of TSB's with less publicity.

If the problem they address becomes a real widespread issue it becomes a TSB.

The pad you refer to is really nothing but a piece of insulation about 6"x 8"

It wraps around the cupholder section with peel and stick tape.

Edit..sorry to barge into your regional forum I was looking at new posts and stumbled in..I'm out.

Ahh, thanks snap.. Sounds like the insulator helps only the cupholder then.

I guess the tunnel heat is something we live with then.
