Hot Import Nights San Mateo 2005

TRU: looks good... keep at it and don't cheap out
I spent way too much money on my previous show car/WRX, which became my calling card. Sponsors saw my dedication and carried their sponsorships over to the RX8, sans contracts (haven't signed any yet). That said, since I don't have any contractual obligations (just moral ones) & there's no chance of winning any shows against the fiberglass beasts out there now, I take my '8 to shows just to fluff my ego. :P (Besides, I built my audio setup and need to show it off!)
Styling and quality parts go hand-in-hand (just b/c you win one show with your style doesn't mean you'll place in the next), that combination will usually win import shows, or at least the ones I've entered (Import Showoffs/HIN/HID/Autofest); and, of course, quality=money.
However, if you're entering NOPI (or similar)... anything goes. AFAIK, the more money spent on bondo, fiberglass, plexi, and chrome = teh win.

I can say I saw Shawrf1's car in person, and it was fully loaded when he came to our local meets. Always something new added to his car, and on top of that is nice enough to explain the details added to his car. His car is indeed ready to go head to head in HIN shows, Nopi, whatever the heck it wants to challenge. Still haven't seen the new trunk setup yet... :P

, $5500 in paint job, $1200 bodykit & $1300 to paint it & install it) in my car in about a little over a year.I don't have the extra $50k that outlaw said is a must to put in my car for a carshow if I dont want to be laugh at.I have not done everything I want to my car yet because I'm only 22.The only reason I'm entering is because I want to try to get some exposure & some more experience.
I have spent most of my money on audio equipment because I really like car audio & intends to compete in SQ comps.
PS: I did not intend to start an argument & since I do believe that I might of started it, I apoligize to whoever I offended.Let's be mature & squash this!

The thing to remember is that it's a "Showoff contest.." Not a performance one... so start adding those mods that do nothing to add HP to our cars... Such as the HKS Suction, and go original and add the Auto-Bahn Quad tip exhaust. That will really spotlight the car a bit.
Look at the ugly Scion tC with the 42" plasma TV in the trunk, looks stupid, but hella expensive. Thus it's getting all the awards and attention. Even the color is a bit barfy.
One of the first things you will notice on Shawrf1's car is the Greddy Big brakes... those are shiny. Then you'll see what's under the hood, and BAMN, tons of goodies. That's the kind of thing you have to remember when you enter the car show... go BAMN, and smack people upside their heads to catch their attention.
One article I read said that "custom Kandy colors" are no longer the BEST thing to do to insure a win/exposure.. it's the crazy custom paint details that are the rage now. Like flames, cherry blossoms, anime characters, etc... which absolutely sets you apart. Then it's the crazy tvs in the trunk... 40"+ Plasmas, or basically your own version of THX in a trunk.

It should be interesting to see all the 8s that will be in San Mateo. I don't think my intention was to ever win any prices. I guess just be one of those cars outside, or in the smaller rooms that get attention. All the big time cars are in the main auditorium. Thats out of my league.

It would be nice if anyone here on the board is entering their 8 at the HIN San Mateo to have a RX8club sticker. That is if your not part of some crew or something, just would like to see who is who at the show.

I believe so. Got to go Bling or not go at all.. that's what my motto is. Besides, even if it wasn't one of the more expensive rims out there, I would still choose these. Better to get what you want the first time, than to get 2nd best.
