How much for Tax, Title, Lincense?

I have been told to expect to add about 9-10% of the price of the car for Tax, Title and License in California .

Could some of you who have purchased confirm what the appropriate cost should be? After reading Boozehounds "hidden fees" thread I want to have a solid idea of what the final price should be.

With my options and accessories MSRP adds to $32,124 + 520 shipping. What should my total price be?

I calculated a total "out the door" cost of $35,856.

I appreciate any comments, is this final price too low or high in your opinion? Can somebody tell me exactly what the fee's should be as opposed to adding an arbitrary 10% to the cost.

Thanks!

For my $28,293 car:

Tax $2196.20
License (estimated) $230
California Tire Fee--what the hell is that? $5
Document Prep Fee $45

8.5%

I guess if the final total is between $35,700-35,900, I should be okay.

It's not the Tax that's going to get you, even though that's a big part of it. It's the California registration that's going to eat you alive! You can write a nice letter to Grey Davis and let him know how much you appreciate paying it...

I used to live in California, and when I found out what my registration fees were in TX, I serious thought they had forgot something. ($65.00)
You'll probably end up paying about the same in registration fees as you will Tax on the car. I'm not sure how "Extreme it is now" but I heard it's pretty bad...

Any Calfornian's buyers want to rant regarding what you had to pay just for Registration?

Those registration fees you are referring to are supposed to increase very soon.

I was hoping someone who bought in California could offer some information, I guess not.

Well the registration fee increase will not be in effect until Jan. 2004 for the 2005 year. So if you purchase your car before Jan. you'll pay significantly less for registration but come next year be prepared... whatever you paid... triple it.

I purchased my 1st new car in Jan of 2000. The registration on my Impreza was initially $404. The state refunded me about a month or so later for $200 something... I forget but the actually fee turned out to be $135. Now with the fee cut going the way of the Doo Doo looks like something near $404 will be back... doh...

I paid out the door for my Impreza $24,8xx. The agreed upon price before tax and the rest of the crap was $22,400... so yeah... that sucked my big fat toe but figure tax was $1904 and the $404 the total equals $24708 and the rest of the random odds and ends equals ~ $100-$150.

Hope this helps.

My purchase price was: $33,300.00
Document Prep: $ 45.00
Tax: $ 2750.96

License fee: $261.00
California Tire Fee: $5.00
Tax for LA County: 8.25%

My co-worker went to the DMV and was told that as of October 2003, all registration fees would triple. Upon hearing that, she became understandably upset as her current registration fees are over $500.

I think a good way to avoid dealership fees and misc. bs fees is to go through a fleet dealer or internet sales because they do not markup because they simply do not make a commission
