So, totally rebuilding a blown motor is at least $2500.
I can get a working motor from a yard for about that. If its compression turns out a bit low, it is fairly cheap to "freshen it up".

Your alternative is - you blow a motor, get it towed to a dealer, wait two weeks with no rental reimbursement and then pay a bill for $7k to $9k.

With this idea, you chip in $100 a year and when you blow your motor, it goes to a member's house, the motor gets swapped out in a few days and the bill is only $2500 to $3k.

Wasn't trying to trash your plan. It's a great idea and you can count me in. I was just dreaming This having cash in hand but not enough for FI is making my mind go nuts. Was thinking about a 2nd Gen all yesterday then dreaming of another new CPU this morning ( DAMN YOU FRY'S!!!! ). I've been pretty good though. Moved it all to an account were I don't have an ATM card

Wow 3 of you down at around the same time? This is disheartening indeed

Easy - new bumper? What'd I miss?

Box - nice to see you resurface!

Again everyone, good ideas and discussion. We'd have to come up with a way to include everyone who wanted to participate to get the "pool" of investors large enough to make the system viable (IMO). Since you can currently buy a Gen 3 Mazda Reman for just over $3K, the system we develop would have to be able to take into account differences in engines (Gen 1, Gen 2 or Gen 3) and their replacement costs.

Has anyone checked into the cost to extend your warranty to 100K miles? I'm thinking it's probably something like $2K for the additional coverage. Might be money well spent. Just a thought.

Extended warranty policies typically exclude cars with modifications...

Heres a theory. When my motor went, they had to replace the omp. With a new omp it still is not taking a lot of oil into the combustion chamber. I have gone 3000 miles and maybe used 3/4 of a quart. I know with my 88 I used a lot more than that. Could we be starving our motors of the proper amount of oil? I ran pre-mix on both cars, generally a quart per 1000, no smoke, cat may not like me in about 5000 miles, but it does run better, smoother. Like I said just a theory, maybe the omp is not calibrated correctly from the factory, bigger jets, I mean think about it more hp, higher redline, same amount of oil? doesn't make sense to me.

Spotted a Ti on FLW @ Scottsdale Rd, yesterday at about 7 PM or so. It was in the left-turn lane waiting on lagging left light, I blew by in middle otherwise unoccupied lane of FLW.
