July 9-10 2011 Nor-Cal Track, Dyno Tune, BHR Install Weekend

If you want to get you car dyno tested, On Saturday July 16th 2011 starting at 10AM. Hybridworks in Vallejo will be doing 2 pulls for $40. A dyno/tune day is by far the cheapest way to have your vehicle professionally tuned. If you were to rent a dyno and pay a tuner by yourself, you would expect to spend $500-$1000 or more.
A $50 deposit is required by June 1st to secure your spot. After July 1st the deposit is non refundable Final Payment can be made on the day of the event in cash.
Please remember that the cost can go up if people decide not to attend. If you are tight on funds but really really want to participate, PM me.
Schedule: The plan is to do all dyno tuning on Saturday, so we can hit the track on Sunday (including Jeff and Myself). If we are able to get enough people signed up, we will start on friday. In the past I have tried assigning time slots but it never works out. As the date gets closer I will give everyone approximate times.

The website is ncracing.org not .com like you have in your post.
I am waiting for Charles to give me a quote before I decide if I can get tuned or not. Getting some nice things installed, but it's very close to the top end of the budget.
Ordered my AP last August and started tuning in September until my cat converter died, so I am quite a bit out of my 6 months.
Anyways, I'll be there both days and having fun on track after I get everything installed!
Let me know when you have negotiated the group discount. Don't want to miss any track time!

Yes you are expired and will need to pay the $150 surcharge. Which would bring your total tune cost with dyno to $460 and it would enroll you back into 6 months of the MMCS. Honestly if it were me, I would skip one day on the track to get my car tuned. Otherwise you will be wondering how much better the car would feel and faster you would have been with the tune. Plus you will need to spend $300 for the MMCS at some point anyways, you might as well get it dyno tuned for the $300.
What kind of goodies you getting, or is it a secret?

Bilstein PSS9 Coil-Overs
Adjustable Front and Rear sway bars
BHR Ignition + Spark Plugs
Fuel Pump
Mazmart RE-medy Water Pump
Depending on the quote, I might remove the fuel pump upgrade and get the tune instead. We'll see.

The only questionable item for me is the bilstein coilovers. Jeff had the bilsteins and recently switched to the Ksports. The bilstein spring rates are a little low for the track and I think the ksports are cheeper. He said for the track the ksports are much better and they are still very comfortable on the street.

Nice list.

1. It appears the quality/reliability is severely lacking, though a lot of posts are from 2-3 years ago. This is the biggest issue I have with them.
2. I prefer the lower spring rates for 2 reasons, street driving and I want the car to be controllable when it's raining (or, I am not a good enough driver to handle such stiff springs in the rain).
What I like about the Bilstein PSS9:
1. They appear to be very reliable
2. If I decide to make the RX-8 a more dedicated track car and I become a better driver, I can buy stiffer springs and get the shocks revalved by some well known companies.
3. People have used it on the RX-8 with very good feedback
Thanks for the suggestion, it is very appreciated.

Those are some super low prices on these KSport Kontrol Coil-Overs which is tempting but I have 2 issues with them.

-You are correct about about incrasing and bilstein rates latter and having them revalved.
- I can not comment about the ksport quality, I just know Jeff likes his and says the quality should not be an issue.
- Driving in the rain. If on the track, you just want to disconnect the sway bars and it will handle great. Dispite my one video that my suggest otherwise.
- Even with the higher rates, the ride quality wont suffer very much.
Sounds like you have done your research, you know what you want and the Bilstein's are probably the best fit for you.
You might be able to get the Bilstein's shipped with slightly increased spring rates without needing them revalved. That would be a good compromise.

Damn I want to go but im trying to get coilovers and wont be able to afford getting a accessport and a tune.
This would be my first track event as I have been wanting to go but wanted coilovers first as I dont think tracking with S-Techs is really good? Maybe ill go to watch and ride along as I been wanting to see how our cars boosted felt as I had a WRX before this.
Can BHR do a compression check on my car? I have been curious what it is at as I am still under warranty.

The RX-8 completely stock handles the racetrack just fine. You do not need coil-overs for the track. As long as the car is properly maintained, especially with brakes, tires and oil change you'll go just as fast as STIs, EVOs and porsche boxsters
Just make sure to get yourself an instructor!

Like Lodes in stock form the RX8 works great on the track. Your S-Techs may help or they may hurt but overall it should still do just fine.
If I were you, I would choose a AP and Dyno Tune over coilovers right now. You can do the Coilovers some other time, but having the chance to Dyno tune your car only comes once in a while. Plus during your next track day you will be able to feel the difference with the coilovers installed.
What coilover Group Buy are you signed up for? For the money, I think the Ksport Kontrol Coilovers are one of the best options. The quality and valving is good, and the spring rates are high enough plus you can ge custom spring rates.

Go to the Wheel, Tire, Suspension sum forum. Im in the group buy for powertrix coilovers. Quality looks to be good, able to change the spring rates upon ordering. Independent height and damper adjustment. The only thing is once I get my IT job I was going to do a turbo build and I didnt want to resign up for the calibration.
One more thing, my exhaust setup might be too loud for track? Test pipe with single exit? Can I bring a friend? He wants to get into tracking but he doesnt have a RX8, I assume this isnt a RX8 only event?

The HPDE is put on ny NCRC and open to everyone.
The exhaust should be fine. I have never seen anyone get kicked off the track at thunderhill and there are some loud cars.

Attention: IF your interested, please contact me to seccure your spot ASAP. AS of right now, we do not have enough committed people to make this happen. Jeff and Charles need to make plans so they will need to know ASAP if this is going to happen. Thank you.
