Wow, it's a been a while since I've posted on here, 3 weeks to be exact.. I just been extremely busy, trying to get the Mustang and RX-8 back on the road. Plus, I was out of town for a few days.. Besides that, I will be repainting my 8 soon I decided to go with the 2-tone look. I also see Phil is finally got his S/C finished up and completely installed! How do you like it Phil? Hope you're enjoying it, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I also see that Gilbert finally got some rims for his 8, looks nice bro! I also see there is a new member as well, also with some new rims. Looking very nice guys, glad to see some 8's getting modded in Vegas. I also, have the forum member list almost complete, I will post it on here a.s.a.p. Other than that, I gotta go make some phone calls, I also gotta plan my 21st birthday which is in 4 days!!

I'd be curious as to the cost and HP gains too.

cost & hp
I will most likely not dyno my car as the results just seem to foster arguments and accusations. If dyno results are what your interested in then see Pettit's thread. More h/p is a fact - how much added h/p? Enough to do what I wanted.
Since I have an a/t, my desire was to get across the intersection in a speed consistent with the looks of the car. A little added push from gear to gear would be a plus, top end speed was not a concern. What I ended up with is a screaming monster starting at about 1500 RPM. I am delighted with the outcome and feel that my decision to go s/c was justified. There is a complete saga connected with the acquisition and installation that can be found in the two Pettit treads and the a/t forum threads.
Stracos asks about costs:
The Interceptor X = $1475 with freight
The installation of the Interceptor X= $300.00
The Pettit s/c = $5560.00 includes freight (red label freight so it will be cheaper)
The installation of the Pettit s/c = $1000.00
Parts such as hoses, nuts/bolts/gaskets, extra gasket materials, etc = $150.00
Final tuning (still in progress) = $100.00
Lat top computer w/cables & programs = $700.00
Now the install of the X could have been self installed but I was very unsure of my ability. Also other e-manage systems are out there and some are a little cheaper. The next day air freight was due to the first gentleman that was going to install only had time for a few days but was unable to get to me so the NDA freight of $510.00 would not be needed. The installation of the super charger was a necessity and not to be started by the meek or the weekend mechanic unless you are not in a hurry. I think Pettit's comment about a self installed unit means self installed by one of his mechanics. Even the instructions comment that some of the install requires three hands. The added parts were mostly not needed as the kit covered those parts except for silicone sealant. We changed the location of a couple of items so we spent a little more. Final tuning for someone that will read the X instruction book, understands the tuning process and how to use a lap top may not be necessary as the s/c comes with a program that needs to be added to the X for the s/c. Most of you guys (& gals) already have a lap top so this will not be on your list or expences.
If anyone's interested in acquiring a s/c PM me for some advise and moral support.
Oh yea, I forgot the sound - get close to me and you'll understand what I'm talking about - love that s/c sound.

You're right. a S/C would make the performance of the car match the looks. Doesn't really matter what the exact gain is. On the one hand its really dumb of mazda to put out a sports car thats this slow. It sort of takes away from the "rotary engine pride" so many folks have.
On the other hand you can buy these things for under $24k with all the rebates, so I think it performs fine for the price point.
I do agree with the fact that its not all about speed. Its how the car handles and how much fun it is to drive. I'm a miata-guy so I'm OK with that. I just think Mazda probably needed to get CLOSER to the 350z in HP. Particularly given the low MPG of the rotary engine. You don't have to be the fastest, and the RX8 is not about speed. However, you sort of do have to get a little closer than ~220hp vs 300hp. I won't even bring up torque.....
But again, at least after rebates they have a serious price advantage. Having driven both the 350z bores me so please no flames.
I just wanted to raise the point that maybe the "its too slow" and the "speed isn't everything" folks are both right. Speed isn't everything, but the RX8 HP/Torque are just lower than they really should be. Narrow the delta. It is mazda's prize sports car & rotary engine technology after all. At the very least don't ship a Mazda 3 station wagon (oh, sorry, mazdaspeed) thats faster than your RX8.

I got a question for you Jordan, do you still have your OEM wheels and tires? If so, I might be willing to buy them off you or even trade you?! Also, before I forget to ask.. Who all is going to the D1 Grand Prix on the 13th and 14th??

I live in the Vegas area and I am looking for a group that enjoys there 8 as much as I do. Does Vegas have any fun runs for the 8's? Everyone I wave to would rather run me off the road than wave back. Drop a line if you can help....
