It's a personal preference mostly made by the sound that is the end result. Other factors that come into play are:

Finances
Are you going to FI?
Decibel of sound level required (how loud or quiet)
Are you keeping your stock Cat?
Are you installing a Super Cat?
We have several styles and makes within our club. Each has it's own unique sound (and price). I knew early on that I would FI my car and wanted a full sized and tuned exhaust that was built for maximum air flow. That got me down to about four (there are a few more now) so then it was sound. I wanted constrained sound (deep throat) during normal driving but a loud deep growl under boost. At that time there were two that suited my sound requirements one being the Borla and the other being Racing Beat. Racing Beat has a warranty that was superior and was made in Cali. I've never been disappointed.

If your looking for HP, then it's a toss up. Racing Beat purchased 10 different exhausts and dynoed them (on a completely stock 8) and found that none made more than 5hp gain. It's not the exhaust that will make the HP it's all the mods put together. Except for the funky looks the stock exhaust does not do a bad job if your not going to mod.

Fill me in on your ultimate plan and I'll break it down to three makers for you then you will have to decide by the sound. There are some that you do not want under any circumstance

No, I like to track my car on occassion and if your as low as Mike's they will not let you on the track. High speed aero on our cars shows that at 80 miles per hour it will compress to the ground 1/2" and at 125 MPH it will compress 1" (with stock appearance package some aero packages are different). Lift on our cars does not show until 143 mph and then it's scary (at 153 you are airborne). There are ways to fix the high speed problem but we are limited on where we can go that speed even on a track.

I had the RB package installed on my car which lowered it a little but stiffened up the aero compression.

Now you sound like Jason MX193, his exhaust is even larger than mine but he is buying the turbo to go with it (which will tone it down a bunch). But you should hear him now.

My exhaust is the race version of the Racing Beat catback (which they stopped making) but the only difference between mine and the current one is that it's a little louder. I love mine (as everyone luvs theirs).

phil can you fill me in? what is the reason why a car as low as mikes car wouldn't be able to run at the track? i don't get it? is it gonna depend on the track officials and rules? Does this apply to all tracks? i've looked at the regulations on scca in regards to suspension, i couldn't find anything about ride height requirements. i've see the HPDE 4 class at phoenix international raceway roadcourse with really low cars.

here goes a couple of pics that i found. these are pics of cars that ran time attack at button willow. these cars are low!!

SCCA does have suspension requirements, but only in each of the classes and when you sign up to race a class are required to adhere to them. The SCCA publishes rules and requirements for each class and are available to members of SCCA. If we figure out which class would apply I'll be happy to get a copy. Auto's operating on track insurance are subject to track rules and safety inspection. Basicly all they will do is press down and measure the deflection. According to Speed Source Racing, stock suspension and stock aero will deflect downward 1/2" at 80mph and 1" at 125mph. Now if you change the shocks, upgrade the swaybars and link pins you can be that low. I have not talked to the local track yet but when I do I will inquire as to their rules. I would not try it myself and in the past I've seen lots of cars denied track time due to ride height vs suspension. Keep in mind that Mike bottoms out when he hits a match stick or so he tells me. Look at the rules for Nascar and ride height is a three page requirement. All forms of racing (that I am aware of) have ride height requirements (and most have aero & suspension requirements.

phil i did see the suspension requirements on the scca page. my question is does it specically state in inches about a certain ride height? I didn't see that part.

I forgot to address the pictures. Ride height is measured two ways and is dependent on the suspension. A car can be lowered to what ever ground clearance that rules and suspension will allow, suspension clearance is another measured item to show ride height. Thus you can have a car that appears to almost drag the ground.

so are they measuring the stiffest such as spring rates, dampening and rebound?

Well I don't think SCCA uses an inch system but I'm not real sure as I have not raced for several years. Usually tracks set a minimum body clearance and then the SCCA rules set a ride height for your class and it used to be done on a scale with various ways of deflection (weights, electronic depressors, etc.). I'm sorry I don't know the current answer for your question but give me an idea of what class you would be interested in and I will get you a current answer. Most SCCA is set up for the weekend racer and they try and make it so that you don't have to sell the family farm to run a race, and they try and limit the guys with cash from buying the class.
