I pretty much need 1-2 OEM wheels, they can have curb rash on them or not. I'm gonna give them a new, fresh of powder coat paint. I will also be repainting my RX8's front bumper, hood, side skirts, rear bumper, roof, side mirrors, and my trunk. When I get my new RX8, I will be repainting the whole car with a custom blue color. No metallic or mica, just a flat color.

Ok, I've been researching and trying to find a local place for chroming plastic pieces, which some like to call Electroplating. I want to chrome all the plastic pieces in our RX8 engine compartment, this is a fairly difficult task to undertake. Electroplating a plastic object is something not easily done (plastic not being conductive and all that). I have some knowledge of the plating process, and have researched quiet a bit now, and it isn't a home brew type of thing. I will give you a quick rundown of the process from what i have gathered up. First the part is dipped in an acid cleaner tank (Sulfuric acid, chromic acid, water) then it is dipped into an acid etch tank (same as cleaner tank but stronger). After this, the part it will have microscopic pitmarks covering on it. It is then rinsed in a couple of tanks, cleaned in a hydrochloric acid tank, rinsed again, then dipped in a paladium tank. From here it is dipped in a tank called electroless copper (Cupric sulfide, Cupric sulfate, Formaldehyde). The paladium (it sticks in the small pitmarks) attracts copper from the cupric sulfide and ends up with a very thin layer of copper coating. Now the part can be electroplated as normal. What do you guys think about this idea? Give me some of your opinions..

i thought for sure you were going to be there jason, that sucks about your car, now mine is doing the same thing. Did mazda coem out to your car?
Go to the Issues & Problem forum and see Technical Service Bulletins. Find the one that fits your problem, print it and if still under warranty take it to the dealer.

Consider having the rims polished - lasts longer than chrome, does not chip off and costs less. I had my stock rims polished and just use a little mothers cleaner once in a while to keep that shine.

I might go that route, it won't matter much to me.. I'm getting rid of this 8 soon, so whoever gets better like it! I'll have to think about it though.. Thanks for the advice/suggestion, Phil!

Type 1 or type 2 K&M typhoon intake? Did you buy the car used? From a dealer? I hope you tell me a dealer - and I hope they gave you the extended warranty with it. If your planning on keeping the car for three or more years you need to get the dealer to give you the stock air box. If we ever meet I'll explain why you need the stock parts. You don't have to put them on yet - go ahead and run the typhoon but eventually your going to have an idle problem and you will need some of the parts from the stock box to fix it correctly. Just trying to be helpful not bossy.

Ok - You bought it as is then. If you ever have the problem you could most likely buy the parts you need. The problems with K&N are idle related (each type having a slightly different need). I hate a tempermental idle.

I guess I misunderstood you - I thought you were keeping your 8 or are still going to buy a new one?

It's not K&M, Phil... Just Kidding! Hahah But, I still have my warranty, even when I had my K&N Typhoon V.1 on, and never had a problem with it. They can't void my warranty for that ****.

Oh, that's my plan for the RX8 that I will be getting.. This current RX8, I'm just gonna do a 2 tone paint. (Velocity Red/Brilliant Black) But, igot big plans for my next RX8,i get disappointed when i see all these cheesy RX8's at events. Gives a bad image for us guys, that's why i've been putting so much thought into this one. I'm willing to spend all my money on the 8, it's not like i got a habbit to waste my money on. I don't drink or smoke, or gamble.. I don't pay rent, but i pay 2 car payment and 2 insurances and my cell phone bill. I don't go out dinner, I always eat at home. Use to homecooking all my life, don't really like eating out either.. I got about $3500, I need another $2000-$2400 to get my R Magic wide body kit!!

I still want a new one, I got a 2004 with 22k miles on it. Replaced the engine maybe month or 2 before, I wrecked. So, the new engine doesn't have much miles on it. It's a 4-Port AT, I want atleast a 6-Port AT. Overall, I still haven't decided weather I should get an '07 or an '08?

I do have it good but i don't.. I have unemployment compensation, but not for long. I will start looking for new work, when I come back from Washington State. Besides that, I really think you should go with the Vertex body kit. They are more rare unlike MS kits. They are beyond played out in my mind.. (no offense to those who have it)z But, at the end of the day its really up to you what you want and like!

Nice little add on! Sabrina (xxpurplerx8xx), is the one with the Sunlight Silver Veilside. She got her kit installed, and disappeared..
