Yeah, people are spoiled here big time. I go back home in upstate New York and go to see a movie at the local mall, and I swear they have not updated the theaters since they were built in the late 1980's. Out here, you get a new one with all the latest and greatest a couple times a year.
If you live near or outside the belt-way, all the stores are practically new, and most places are open 24 hrs. a day. The roads, as Phil said, are pretty well maintained (try living in the snow belt with pot-holes). The new City Center project will probably bring 12,000 or so new jobs, too. People can make a pretty good living out here without a degree.
That being said, there are a lot of drawbacks. Transients for starters. I can't tell you how many neighbors I've ever had that I never met. I think it's common practice out here to ignore/avoid your neighbor. The word "Yard" as in "backyard", does not exist in the Vegas dictionary--I've seen cemetery plots larger than some of the ones out here. Education flat out sucks. I was forewarned before I moved out here that Nevada was the dumbest state in the union behind Arkansas, and that's just because they can't spell Kansas right.
But ultimately, I believe that, such as in life, it is what you make it. I love football season here, and can't imagine being elsewhere--just wouldn't be the same. Also like the 80 degree temps in October, too. Don't miss the snow, etc.

Most of you are spoiled - You live in one of the most sought after destinations. The roads are good, no real taxes, high paying jobs, many things to do and (while a little high) afordable housing. The grass always look greener next door - until you get there and then you see the brown spots.

For those of you that did not come to the meet because of the weather, Poopah. Aside from being a little cool the weather was perfect.
I had a good time, AJ got his drive, AJ & Jim did the hood mod and the air conditioning mod in the parking lot, Jason, Gil & Annette got their brew.

As far as I know, this is the next scheduled meet:
Las Vegas Cottonwood Cove Meet
I do have a party boat & jet ski boat so there would be enough boats for a small group. My idea is to take a weekend consisting of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and clean up on Monday at Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mohave. I would like to keep this among the members only (it could get out of hand).
DIRECTIONS:
For those of you who may not know where Lake Mohave is or Cottonwood Cove are - Just drive toward Boulder City, turn to follow signs to Searchlight (Needles, Laughlin) on Highway 93, turn left at the sign in Searchlight (Cottonwood Cove Road) drive an additional 12 miles to reach the park.
Rules that will apply:
1. If you drink then you can't operate any of my water craft. You can ride but not drive.
2. You must supply your own legal flotation devise (vest or equal) and you must have one to even ride in a boat. Inexpensive ones available at Walmart or Bass Pro Shop.
3. Children are welcome but must be managed by their parents and will wear their foliation devices at all times when in or on a watercraft. Small children are welcome on the deck boat but discouraged from the jet ski boat. Please see rules in main posting.
4. I don't want to be a policeman or your guardian but when using, riding upon, riding in any water craft my word will be law. I don't want any one hurt on my watch.
5. I do have water skis, singles and doubles and all are welcome to use them. Remember that alcohol and water don't mix to well. Your welcome to bring some of your own equipment.
6. Each person attending will supply their own food, drink and camping equipment - I will pay for the fuel to operate all the water craft but may require some assistance filling them up. I will also pay for a boat slip or slips to dock at so daily assistance with the boats will be kept to a minimum.
7. We will have one docking space for the deck boat. Someone could sleep on the deck boat if need be as there is a lot of space on the boat (ask Jason). If there is room at the dock I will park the other boat there otherwise I will need assistance taking it out of the water daily.
8. My partners asked me not to bring the jet skis because of liability if someone gets hurt. So currently there will be two boats available. Jet skis can be rented in Searchlight if you wish.
For those of you wishing to come to the Cottonwood Cove meet, presently the following are available.
1. Dirt camping at the camp sites are on a first come first serve basis. Can't tell if they will be full. If full you can camp on the day beach we will use as our central point but you are stuck there after dark.
2. There are currently 17 spots open for full service RV spots (I will be in one of these in my motor home)
3. There are small motel rooms available for that weekend if you would like. The resort has no internet connection and rentals are only by phone. See WWW.CottonwoodCove.com for phone numbers.
4. There may be a small ($5.00) fee for entering the park. The park service may charge $3-$5 per night to camp at the marina area. All other questions will be answered by PM
